Auto Position Servo Limits

Auto Position Servo Limits

When I use the Horizontal servo window in ARC, I can set a min and max for a servo. However, when I use the Auto Position control panel (Auto Position Robot Skill) I can move the servo beyond those limits.

My question: can I set a min and max for a servo in the Auto Position control panel (or in the Auto Position Robot Skill) so automatic positioning respects those limits? If not, is there somewhere else in the ARC project where servo limits can be enforced for Auto Position?

Thank you.

Yes - Auto Position can respect servo limits, but it’s important to understand which limits are being used.

What’s happening

The Horizontal Servo skill has its own per-skill min/max settings, so it will stop there.

But Auto Position works with the servos directly from its own frame values, so it does not automatically inherit the min/max from the Horizontal servo skill.

Where to enforce limits

1) Set global servo limits

Use the global servo limit commands so all skills in the project respect them, including Auto Position:

  • Servo.setMinPositionLimit(port, position)
  • Servo.setMaxPositionLimit(port, position)

Example in JavaScript:

Servo.setMinPositionLimit(d0, 30)
Servo.setMaxPositionLimit(d0, 150)

That sets project-wide limits for that servo port.

2) Set limits in Auto Position frames

You can also keep Auto Position safe by manually constraining the frame positions in the Auto Position configuration.

That means:

  • open Auto Position
  • go to Configuration
  • edit each Frame
  • make sure the servo values stay within your safe range

3) Use servo settings in the skill itself

If you are configuring a servo inside a robot skill, many skills have their own servo configuration via the kebab / menu icon in the skill window. That limit is skill-specific, not always global.

Best practice

If you want all movement in ARC to stay within safe bounds, set the global min/max servo limits first, then build your Auto Position frames inside those limits.

Quick question

Are you using standard PWM servos on an EZ-B port, or smart servos like Dynamixel / Feetech? That matters a bit for how the position and safety limits behave in ARC.

If you want, I can also show you the exact JavaScript initialization script to enforce limits automatically when the project connects.

@athena

Set global servo limits like in a init script .

got it thank you
