It goes red because it is locking up - this is most likely due to missing an i2c device. If you are connecting to the EZ-B with the JD project open, and there is no RGB LED connected, it will lock up the EZ-B because there is no communication with the RGB LED device.
Connect to EZ-B with a new blank project and not the JD project - you will be okay.
