Hey, I am not a Japanese cucumber farmer...only a German robot enthusiast, but I though maybe some of you might find this interesting!
@ptp Thank you so much for this overview, you covered all the options. And I totally agree that we should have fun with the pre-trained models available, since custom classifiers need huge data sets and it is a science on its own!
Although the path you are taking here at the forum, over at the othere threat us very interesting!
I had some Google searches, which made me think that there are some good options on YOLO live detection with about 1.5sec frame rate on a Rasberry Pi. I will try to find the links and share them!
Also Googles AIY Vision Project should be available again pretty soon, and like the AIY Voice kit there should be a good community emerging around it!
Its so cool that Machine Learning is finally available for hobby robotics, lets keep it hot!
Yolo seems like it is the way to go.
Very cool. Seeing lots more support for tensorflow with Watson as well. I also noticed they now Support apples core ML so once your model is created and trained you can download it and run on IOS device. Perhaps the ez-robot iPad app could be updated to run trained models.

Feels like science fiction that we're starting to get our hands on things like this! Haha. @ptp Thanks for all the testing and your overview!
