received roli the other day. went through the following steps:
- unpacked everything and laid out on table.
- verified all parts ordered were received and set up charging since it was a no brainer
- opened up ez software
- noticed there was "getting started tutorial" link, clicked
- started tutorial from here in the roli (https://synthiam.com/Tutorials/) 5a. Did not find tutorial very intuitive as it did not explain how to assemble roli
- went back to ez software, click "example projects" link
- clicked roli example
- asks me if i want assembly instructions, click yes
- start through instructions
- all built as per instructions 10a. no mention of "red and black" wires left dangling
- all assembled plug in charger under roli, light goes green
- turn on roli, scares me with loud voice.....
- notice there is arrow buttons for moving robot
- hold up robot and click the forward button
- no movement
- notice "connect" buttons in "connection dialog" click top one
- pop up asks me to see "getting started" tutorials, click yes
- follow instructions and "connect" to roli, says i successfully connected to roli
- try movement buttons again, no movement, just buzzing
- go back to website, click "connecting H-Bridge"
- much better pictures than instructions in ez software
- verify my connections are same as pics
- notice the "red and black" dangling wires are shown as connected in this tutorial
- connect as shown
- try clicking movement buttons, no movement, smoke....stress
- shut down roli
- go to website and do most tutorials, also maintenance/care tutorials
- turn on roli, connect, try movement, nothing
- search forums for similar problems, found @stephenhoey has similar issue (https://synthiam.com/Community/Questions/6809)
- decide to not hijack his thread and start my own
i hope this helps someone help me. i will be taking the roli apart and posting pics shortly.
I didn't want to start a whole thread about this but I feel I should share. In addition to having the same 5+/VCC issue as others, I had a bad connection on one of my motors as well. I just stripped back the shielding and re soldered it and it worked. I can now go back to re-assembling my Roli. (I took it apart for easier troubleshooting.) Thanks again to everyone for sharing all of this info.
I also have this issue, I turned my roli on and it wouldn't move forward backward etc. I have not checked the little button mentioned above mut mine also smoked for a second before I saw smoke and turned it off, i will be opening the case today to inspect what went wrong. What a pain in the butt though.
@sasquatch if you could take a photo of the h-bridge wiring inside we can help determine if there was an manufacturing issue.
