The linked thread mentions using 12 - 24 volts to drive the motor even though it will probably have a much lower voltage specified. This is correct and is done in order to overcome the winding inductance and get a fast response time from the motor. However, this high voltage drive must be pulse width modulated to prevent the max. motor winding current from being exceeded. This is accomplished by monitoring the voltage across a low ohm resistor placed in series with the winding and turning the drive on or off as required.
