Source For New V4 6Pin Camera Extention Cable

Need to make my V4 camera's cable longer... Seems to be a JST 2.0mm 6 pin cable... found this on eBay 6pin JST However, it looks like I may have to do some soldering with it. Anyone know of a place to buy a plug and play male/male extension 6 pin 2.0 JST cable?

Buy a pair of crimpers and make one yourself? I just bit the bullet and got a pair since I've been spending stupid money on extensions etc. and the crimper would have paid for itself by now.

Ebay is probably your best bet for pre-made ones. Jeremie has mentioned the exact connector type previously, I'll see if I can find the post once I've cooked my steak :)

I didn't expect this to happen... I can't find a decent source (other than ebay) for these extensions... So yeah, ebay I guess unless you decide to make the cable yourself with a 6 pin JST PH 2.0mm plug and receptacle.

I thought the camera was 5 pin. Sorry, I have a Roli kit coming so I'm still without a physical reference. ;)

No it's 6 (I thought it was 5 earlier so checked)

I've checked my usual sources and it doesn't look like an extension wire is available. You can get the 6 pin JST PH 2mm plug with wire & bare ends but not a male to female extension.

What I'll be doing when/if I need to adjust the length is picking up two of the housings and building my own wire the length I need it. It's a bit of a pain but at least that way it's non invasive and it's the length I need it.

It's 6... have the V 4 camera in my hand... Thanks for the advice Rich... Think I am going to make my own using the ebay link....

Thanks for confirming that for me guys.:) Good luck with your cable making. Let us know if you notice any performance changes with the new distance? Please.

Just had a thought, DJ showed a video of a whole bunch of the cables connected up when someone asked about long runs, just wondering how they managed to link the cables since both ends are the same so they wouldn't have plugged them in to each other...

Antron, as above, there is a video about showing a long length and no performance issues somewhere, it'll be on EZ-Robot's youtube channel somewhere :)

@Dave, in Richard's original post, This ebay link is pretty much all that's around (adafruit and sparkfun do the same cable too).

Or my posts pointing out to build a custom cable with JST crimps and the 6 pin JST PH 2mm housings since none of the usual sources list extensions for 6 pin JST PH 2mm spaced connectors.

@Richard thanks, that's #200:) User-inserted image

Hey Dave, going with the eBay item, but also buying a crimper kit as Rich suggested...

You could just use the ebay item along with a different plug/socket combo. Provided you get a matching set of 6 pin plug/socket the two would plug in without issue and, depending on the plug/socket combo you could make off the plug & socket with barely any effort.

Another solution would be to crimp with through crimps if you want to avoid soldering the joint.

Or just solder the joint and wrap it up in heat shrink.

Just an FYI, the JST crimper does take a little getting used to as the JST terminals are so fiddly. But once you get used to it you'll not regret it :)

I would really like to lean to use the crimper tool. I have a basic set for butt connectors.... I want my wiring to look more professional and be more robust... Gone are the days of splicing wire together with electrical tape;) Happy 200, by the way....

That's why I bit the bullet and got the crimper. For some reason JST crimpers over here are stupid money (like £50 upwards, which is about $70+) but being a perfectionist with OCD soldered joints wrapped in tape or heat shrink aren't what I like to have even if they aren't accessible or on show.

Thanks (and thanks to Jeremie who I didn't notice commented earlier), 200 come around pretty quickly, shooting for 1000 now:D To be honest it's a pleasure to be able to come on and help out, I find it's an escape from the day to day rubbish I put up with elsewhere:) and I learn from helping too (since I like to be sure I'm right I check stuff out and find other stuff I didn't know). If only it converted to pints of beer...

Re:pints of beer. If I ever get to the UK, or if you ever come across the pond to Washington, DC area, I'll convert plenty of your points to beer for you. :-)

Hey I just remembered that I forgot to mention that the most affordable JST crimper that I have come across was found here for $60 USD.

It's nothing fancy but the price is right. I usually use the lowest setting to crimp the pin onto the wire and then the largest setting to crimp the back part of the pin onto the insulation.
