Forbin 2 is my new project - he is built around a modified Lynxmotion Johnny 5 kit, interfaced to ARC and no less than 18 servos and sensors He is designed to give me a flexible platform to solve specific challenges which will be posed for him over the coming months/years. The solutions will be either hardware or software based, but all rely on him being able to act autonomously once the task has started. The first one (posed by my wife) is to be able to accurately pour a glass of wine for her!
I'll post videos and code soon if anyone is interested

I can't wait to see as this project develops...
Did you name him after the movie? One of my favorite movies of all time!
I had to dig up colossus and look at it again. Just finished. It is still a good movie. I last saw it in the '70s. Enjoyed it again!
Mel
I don't think I have ever seen that one..... Will have to check it out.
Great spot DJ - you are clearly a kindred spirit It was a hugely influential film for me because I had never seen a film before where the main character was a computer and even more so when the computer won and humanity came second - I think it was the first film I ever saw which had a "not what the hero wanted" ending...
Try 2001 a space Odyssey.
Also a good movie - you've got to love Hal ("Don't do it Dave") but Colossus is the one for me...I'm also lucky enough to live near Bletchley Park in the UK (where the Enigma codes were broken during WW2) and they have the "real" Colussus - the worlds first semi programmable computer still running there; here's a link
Colossus at Bletchley Park
You can go any weekend and see it run...
I'm not sure but didn't Colussus become an evil computer wanting to take over the world. My all time Robot Movie remains "Forbidden Planet".
Colossus was an American Super computer. It hooked up with a Russian computer which was also a Super computer. Then together they developed a language that only They could understand. Together they held the world hostage and started to control mankind. It was quite a nice movie. I recently saw it after not seeing it since 1970.
...and to be fair to Colossus & Guardian, they did claim everything they did was in the long-term interest of man-kind The film also has a fantastic last line from Colossus; something along the lines of..."Currently you fear me; in time you will come to respect me and who knows, even love me"
What better basis can there be for a long term relationship
(kidding, just kidding!)
Don't forget LOST IN SPACE with the B9 robot instead of Robbie.
When are we going to see some pictures or videos of your project.
Mel
Forbidden planet is also amazing! I agree
One book I wish was a movie would be starship titanic. There would be a great deal of robots in it.
@MrCrispi Bletchley Park thats just up the road from me! I'm in St Albans
My favourite robot is Robbie from Forbidden Planet he was always subserviant but ever so slightly sarcastic with it
My favorite is the B9.
Hey just saw this thread, so you want to talk about cool robots, don't forget Huey,Duey and Louie from Silent Running.
