Hi!
I'm now thinking about buying an EZ-Robot Complete Kit, and the only thing that stops me is that the range of the Bluetooth module is only 10 meters. Some people say that the module can be easily replaced with an XBee module. But I haven't found any tutorials on this, so, I'm asking for help.
You can increase the range of the EZ-B bluetooth by replacing the class 2 (33 feet) bluetooth with a class 1 (330 feet) bluetooth like the BlueSM1RF from Sparkfun.com. At the same time also obtain a class 1 bluetooth USB dongle for the PC.
You can go to Amazon.com and purchase this book about the Xbee/Zigbee
Interesting, I didn't know they made class 1 Dongles. I'm really considering replacing the standard Bluetooth module on EZB with an Xbee. Actually I'm running 3 EZB's in my robot and have been having some random problems with one or two of them disconnecting (from a very close range) and the robot isn't event closed up yet. Soon I'll have them uncased in rubber. I changed to a different standard Dongle and had great improvement but I think Xbee's on all three will be my best bet. Now I learn that there is such a thing as a Class 1 Dongle. I had also been thinking about researching antennas. This may be the answer I was looking for to complete connectivity. Any thoughts?
Thank you Robot-Doc!..hmmm bluetooth or Wii fi?.....choices choices!
