Roomba Variable Joystick Control

Yep, trying to figure out how to program just that. What I'm trying to do is make a program that polls the joystick1 X and Y axis and converts it to sendserial commands for the roomba to make the roomba movements continuously variable with the joystick. Any ideas would be awesome, I'm lost lol confused
