In this 6th installment of DJ's Live Hack Events, we'll be installing ARC on a Raspberry Pi, install plugins and control a robot. There's a conversation regarding NeoPixels and how to drive them from EZ-Builder. I'll connect a NeoPixel to an Arduino and control it via EZ-Builder.
Okay great hack I'll be tuning in to that, In like Flynn!
Cool looking forward to it
can't wait for this live hack!
I'm going to be there...at some point! See you soon.
;)You should have hot glued 4 more arms to the back of robot when doing Indian music dance, Like the Goddess Shiva I think it's called? Super interesting to see the Raspberry Pi working!
I see you guys have fixed some of the issues discovered in the Pi Builder with a new release... the very next day, damn you guys work fast and on a weekend even!
Im impressed it works for the most part on pie because it is so cheap its ok for small projects that need an onboard computer ( or dedicated) I have the Latte Panda 2 /32gb without license at the 89 dollars, still the price of two raspberry pi but worth it if you need ALL the features to work for a little more.
Actually that $89 is what I paid for my pi with accessories because you have to get all the parts. It needs a power supply and sd card - which made my pie $89.
The pi is $40 - even though they try to say it’s less. But you’ll never find a B+ for less with shipping. And you need a decent sized and fast micro sd card, which is $30 and then you need a power supply which is an additional $15-20
The latte panda is a great deal
true true, so really they are very close in price.
Totally - although I’m looking forward to windows on the Pi. I was thinking of installing it this weekend to try out, but since there’s no WiFi support yet it won’t be very useful.
Apparently disabling a ton of the graphic enhancements will speed it up quite a bit. It doesn’t use the gpu yet, so there’s a lot of room for performance improvements in the upcoming months.
The website is pi64.win
Dj I have tested the windows on pi and followed this tutorial on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBslh3nWu0U. ARC is not to bad speed wise about a 5-10 second delay for loading. There is no wifi support but there is ethernet and I think you can use a wifi dongle.
I was watching that video yesterday - ironically! How long did it take you to get running?
This seems to be great...also having in mind that the Raspberry Pi 4 is around the corner!!
It took me about 3 hours because it takes an hour to run the disk image command and then another hour to write the image and then when you boot the pi and do the setup and stuff it takes about a half hour.
DJ is there going to be a live hack tonight?
Yes if you have to do all from scrap it takes a while...could be nice if there would also be some ready to use image for first timers! But once you are set updating your software is really easy and fast!
The guy in that video posted another yesterday. This time he’s running Windows off an SSD rather than microsd. The performance is twice as fast but still no where near the speeds were used to. That’s great progress!!! very excited for it
Apparently it says that I can't watch the video here in the US.:(
Offiously can you see it here?
Still no. Apparently
Offiouly
indeed i cant copie it eather.
no video here
EzAng
I need a vpn to watch this but I don't have one.
DJ Sures does this still work today in 2022 or do I have to use windows on pi?
The short answer is we were forced to rely on Windows.
We had several issues supporting raspberry pi - specifically with the lack of agnostic hardware support. For example, different USB cameras required much user effort and drivers. Also, the robot skills created by our partners would not all be compatible due to the differences between Windows and Linux. Lastly, we found that users would require a lot of Linux-specific support to use the operating system, draining our customer support.
We do have a great tutorial that explains how to get Windows running light-weight: https://synthiam.com/Support/Tips-to-Make-a-Robot/free-space-with-windows-10
Is there a certain download for raspberry pi ARC because when I download it on windows on raspberry pi the camera fps go to 30
30 FPS for a camera is quite average if it is a USB camera. Can you explain in more detail the trouble that you are experiencing?
