Silly question, but do you actually have the new EZB4 board? Or are you just playing with the software until it arrives?... I ask because without the board there is nothing for you to connect to... You won't be using a com port anyway... the new V4 uses WiFi...Have you viewed the ezb4 tutorials... EZB4 connection tutorial? The tutorial will show you how to connect ARC to the new EZB4 board...

Yes, we've looked at the videos, all of them. I was expecting that the robot would use wifi, all we did is we plugged it in and it apeared on our available connections list. When selecting it to connect, it didn't. This is via wifi.

What robot do you have ? Do you have the V4 ezb (white in colour) or the old V3 ezb?

It sounds like you are still connected to your wifi router, not the EZ-B's network. Try opening a browser and connecting to 192.168.1.1 and see if you get your router's admin page or the ez-b configuration page.

If you get your router's page, you need to go back to your computer's wifi settings and disconnect from your home network, then connect to the EZ-B network before starting ARC and connecting to the EZ-B

(once you are successful, we can talk about being connected to both at once, but let's get simple connectivity solved first).

First connect to the wifi network that the ezb is transmitting. You will need to disconnect from your current network to do this.

Next open ARC and hit connect. If no settings were changed on the ezb it should connect.

If not point your internet browser to 192.168.1.1 to ensure it is an ezb. Also, while in there you can change settings and modes.

If it is the new V4, turn it on (and follow the video) to see it is in your WiFi network list.... then we can work on the next step

I'm about to publish a how to video for connections.

Main steps:

1. turn on ez-b and ensure the blue light is flashing.
2. go to your computer and look in the wifi menu. select the ez-b's wifi(usually "EZ-b v4 (ez-b #)")
3. connect to it and ensure that your computer stays connected.
4. go to ARC and click the connect button in the "connections" control.

If this is what your doing and it doesn't work try pressing the reset button on the ez-b.(little hole to the left of the logo on the case)

Hi Technopro, I did exactly all of those steps, including reseting the robot. I will now look into the other suggestions, disconnecting my home wifi and try to connect the ex-robot wtih the laptop.

Your home network should not interfere with the ez-b. You will see the Wi-Fi network for the EZ-B v4 in your network wifi list. Here are instructions step by step as recited in the connection video.

*Note: Ensure you do not have any virus scanners running. Disable them if you do. We are not able to control everything on your computer. We are unable to help if you have anything installed that is preventing the connection. Third party network apps, network helpers, virus scanners, firewalls, etc.. can prevent connections.

1. give power to your EZ-B v4

2. turn on your computer

3. click on the Wi-Fi networks icon

4. locate the EZ-B v4 XXXXXXXXXX wifi network. The XXX is unique to your EZ-B v4

5. click the EZ-B v4 Wi-Fi network in the list

6. click the CONNECT button that is displayed on the EZ-B v4 Wi-Fi network in the list

7. load ARC

8. Press CONNECT on the connection control

At this point, you should be connected.

If not - please run this test...

1. open your web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc..)

2. in the address bar, type http://192.168.1.1

3. Press enter

Answer this question: do you see the EZ-B settings page in your web browser?

I've done all steps already. I stopped my antivirus and firewall. Still doesn't connect.

.Make sure the web address http://192.168.1.1 is correct. .Look for the page with your search engine. .Refresh the page in a few minutes.

Lets go back to the beginning when you first turn on the EZB4.... Does the EZB4 have a flashing blue light when it is on?.... If so, Turn on your laptop.... Go to your list of wifi networks.... Do you see your home network in the list? Do you see any other networks like your neighbours? In that list you should also see your EZB4..... If so click and connect to it like it was an ordinary wifi network.... Once you connect, you won't have internet anymore because you are connected to the ezb not your home network....

Next open your web browser and type in http://192.168.1.1.... If you no longer get "This page can't be displayed" we can continue....

What version of windows do you have? You can also try and reset the ezb board by sticking a paperclip (while it's on) into the little hole in the top left corner of the ezb (next to the ez robot emblem).... Then try again...

If it doesn't display the ezb config web page at 192.168.1.1 you arent connected to the ezb wifi or you change some settings.

Power up the ezb Reset the ezb as Richard just described. Connect to the ezb wifi on your pc Go to 192.168.1.1 and you should see the ezb config page. Once you do open ARC and hit connect.

If any of that doesnt work its likely you have not connected to the ezb wifi network.

I am also still curious on what robot you have? Because you mention "the" robot a few times as opposed to just the EZB4 board..... JD, Roli, or Six? I was under the impression that they haven't shipped yet?

.... Also, I had to connect with my laptop when I first got my EZB board.... My main PC with a USB wifi dongle (it didn't have wifi when I bought it) would not connect... whereas my laptop with built in wifi was able to.... Do you have another PC to try this on?

Sorry if it sounds like we are being repetitive or asking questions that make it seem like you aren't following the directions, but it is part of troubleshooting to go back to the basics step by step. Often the most experienced of us will find we missed sime simple step and spend hours looking for complex issues.

So start with Richard R's questions. What operating system are you using, reset the EZ-B, and tell us what it says and if the blue light is flashing.

Next, tell us the network name you see when you scan for wifi networks, and what the computer says (on screen) when you attempt to connect to the ez-b network. (should be something like "connection to ez-b v4 xx no internet connection".

If so, we then need to be sure you got assiged an IP address by the ez-b. Mouse friendly Instructions very slightly by operating system, so instead, open up a command prompt and type ipconfig [enter]. You should have an ip address on your wlan interface that starts 192.168.1. (if you also have a wired lan connection and it is also giving an ip address starting the same, you will need to unplug the wired lan. You can't have two interfaces with the same address range on different networks).

If you have problems interpreting the ipconfig results, copy and paste them here and it willl help us figure out what is going on.

We'll get this figured out or determine that your ez-b is broken as long as you can be patient with us and answer our questions. Promise :)

My bet is that their local IP scheme is a 10.x.x.x scheme instead of a 192.x.x.x. Alan's directions will give the information needed to solve the issue for you. Knowing what your ipconfig states on your computer will go a long way toward figuring out the issue.

Another possibility is that IP4 is turned off and IP6 is enabled, but I seriously doubt that is the issue.

Just to clarify, I'm not a technical IT person, but I am an IT person so when you give me instructions, I can follow and I know what you're talking about :)

First of all: the robot model is SUPPOSEDLY: EZ-B v4, as mentioned in my first post. We received it without packaging (one plain box with all the parts inside) and a panflet "EZROBOT" Congratulations! .... where it states that thsi is the EZ-B v4.

Next: OS is Windows 8

Antivirus, firewall, VPN... I've disconnected all.

Networks: I see my internet WIFI, my neighbours', and I also see EZ-B v4 11 -- with everything else disconnected, EZB does not connect, so no; I cannot access: http://192.168.1.1

Wow that was a few weeks ago, not days.... Anyway... try another computer... I had to the first time as the computer I was on wouldn't connect to my new V4 either (same problem you are having)... I tried another computer and it connected....

Yes, it does connect from another computer, it's my work Mac, even with all running VPN, antivirus, etc ... but I need to use this computer which is my home laptop.

So it looks like there's an issue with my IP address ... or that it's not in the range that the robot is? The IP is 10.254.56.2

That's important because it rules out the EZB as the problem.... I wish I had more advice for you but I don't... Maybe contact EZ Robot directly?

Is that your IP when you have connected to the "EZ-B v4 xx" wireless network? It shouldn't be. The EZ-B should assign the PC an IP address within the 192.168.1.x range. If it isn't you need to check the properties and settings of the PCs WiFi NIC and make sure it is set to Obtain an IP address automatically

Just to add to this conversation I had some trouble initially getting connected to the v4 board when it was configured to connect as a client to my home wifi network

I had initially managed to connect when the board was acting as an AP (the default) but I struggled to find the devices IP when it connected as a client - the device announced it had managed to connect to my network but I couldn't find it to connect - couple of lessons I learned

My pc's are .net developer win8 machines - both had either virtual network adaptors for vms and also for windows phone emulators - the impact here is they appeared first in the list of network adaptors and so when I tried to scan for the ezb the scan dialog the IP range defaults to one if my virtual adaptors ranges and there seems to be no way to change it ?

I had to disable the other adaptors before the scan would start on the correct range

The other thing I din't spot was that I needed to include the ":23" port parameter in the connect box - might need to highlight that in a tutorial?

One thing that would help is when the board boots up and connects as a client it could announce its IP address?

Make sure your computer doesn't have a static ip setup for it. My ez-b wouldn't work when I had it on.

@Technopro, Not sure if that's good advice on a permanent level. Perhaps for troubleshooting it's a very good idea. I like to remove everything form the system but what I'm trying to get to work when having problems. However Static IP's should make it easier for the router to find and connect to computers and devices. I'm no network guru by a long shot and I do know all computers and OP systems are different. On my setup assigning static IP's to all computers and devices that are associated with my robot and ARC made things run smoother and with quicker start up. Of course you cant assign Static IP's to the EZB until it connects to ARC.

I was having a lot of trouble connecting to two EZB V4's when I first received them. Here's the thread and what I did to get everything working nicely:

@Dave, you are absolutely correct that setting static (or really dhcp permanently assigned) ip addresses to the EZ-B v4 is tje way to go in infrastructure mode long term, but the original poster is still trying to get an initial connection to the ez-b, where a static IP on the laptop in the wrong subnet will make the connection impossible.

I am having the same problem with connecting the ez-b v4 like sofia. boot up, chime, message, and blue light blinks like it should. it shows up on my network tab on my asus windows 8 laptop. refuses to connect. I don't have a static ip setting for the ez-b, and my ipconfig is saying its 192.168.1.1 like normal. firewalls disabled, no antivirus running, just says "cannot connect to this network" everytime i try. i also tried this with my desktop with wireless dongle to no avail. I've read the tutorial on how to connect and browsed most, if not, all of the forum posts that talk about this, as well as watched all of the tutorial videos regarding connetion. none have been able to steer me in the right direction. everything assumes I am able to connect to the ez-b normally.

has someone figured this out? Is there something in my network settings (on both computers) that I haven't disabled/enabled?

1. How are you getting an IP address if the wifi is not connecting?

2. Do you have static IP Addresses set on your network adapters?

3. By "just says cannot connect to this network", are you referring to the WIFI connection in windows or the EZ-B is verbally telling you?

4. You are certain AVAST is not installed?

Pitifully I have tried everything that the nice guys here suggested, unsuccessfully. The next step I think (and given you're experiencing the same problem, both Windows 8) I would suggest that we talk to EZ-Robot because it looks like they don't look at this forum at all.

I've sort of given up for now (it's been 4 months since we started trying with my son) but I would love to see this working.

Maybe anyone at EZ-Robot around and eager to help?

answers to questions:

(just to clearify, im not incredibly tech savvy. I can navigate my way around a computer, but im far from understanding most of what it means. windows 8 is making it much harder for me as well, as its like fighting myself out of a wet blanket to figure out how half of this thing works.)

1. I can connect to wifi. cmd is telling me my ipv4, which is 192.168.1.2 and my efault gateway which is 192.168.1.1. its just not connecting to the ez-b.
2. im not sure. still not entirely clear on what a static ip is. all I know is the ez-b is not anywhere in the network settings. the only place i can see it is in the network tab in the bottom right corner when it tells me what networks are in range. 3)when I try to connect via the network tab. the ez-b has said nothing except that im "apart of the ez-robot revolution", which I'll believe when I get it connected. 4)100% positive I am avast free. I tested negative for avast on both my computers.

We have been having issues with computers using the RaLink Wireless Network Adapter. Until now, the issues we have received are using the RT3290 chipset. Your computer is using the RT2860 chipset. This is the first we have heard of a connection issue with the RT2860 chipset.

I have forwarded the diagnostic information to our WiFi Manufacturer - who is currently investigating the issue with RaLink Wireless Adapters. I'm going to make a modification to the diagnostic report generator and have you create another report for me, when I tell you. I'll see if there is a way to tackle the problem from the software side in Windows.

As for a "quick" fix, the solution has been to use a USB WiFi Adapter, rather than the internal one.

However, I am not giving up on identifying why RaLink adapters have issues with the BlueGiga WiFi module on the EZ-B. I appreciate your patience

The other "quick fix" is to log in to the EZ-B and change it to client mode using a tablet, smartphone or another wireless PC which can connect to it. This then lets it sit on your existing WiFi and provided the PC can access the network (wired or wireless) it can access the EZ-B.

I provided a quick guide to do this when I got my first V4 here.

The wifi dongle I have for my PC is also running off of asus tech, so in assuming its having the same chipset issues of connecting to the ez-b as my laptop. Is there a cheap brand wireless dongle recommended that I can pick up?

Yes, I solved my problem with a TP-LINK which was recommended by the forum. It is cheap and now I can surf the net and run my robot at the same time. TP-LINK

The good news is once you get the EZB4 in client mode, it should connect to pretty much any PC that is on your network... Wired or wireless.....

@Oakmot, you can multiple your frustration by 100 and that's how we feel As a very emphatic person, I am always looking from the consumers perspective and this issue is super challenging for me, personally. It's something that RaLink has done incorrectly in their WiFi drivers, which have affected our product and many others. You haven't experienced issues with the other products affected because they aren't pretty rare devices as well.

We have heard that Bluegiga has identified the issue and is working toward a solution. However, the solution will require not be backward compatible because it will require a physical change to the controller. I don't know when a solution will be yet...

righty-o. bought the dongle, now its connecting, but its saying "connection is limited". blue light still blinking. cant access the ip in my browser, but its showing its connected. step in the right direction i suppose.

Ok. I figured it out.

The dongle itself didnt work, but I was gonna get something like that anyway so it could have a dedicated computer for the ez-b.

@Rich was right. the tablet did work. Luckily I had an android tablet lying around and I was able to download the program (from the ez-robot website, not the google play thing, couldnt find it) and install it onto the tablet, connected to it, and changed the settings that way.

@sofia_wo I'm really sorry you are struggling with this. as for me, I got a bee in my bonnet to get a robot built, and not everyone has the patience to do it. It turns you have the the very Network adapter that others were unable to connect with: The Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

That being said, you still have a couple options for connectivity:

• You can still connect via client mode, @Rich has a good tutorial here

• You can use a USB WiFi dongle, just note that @jdebay mentioned that if you can only use this method if you disable both the Realtek ethernet and Ralink Wifi Network adapters.
