The Ez Robot Wiki Page

Ok I thought this deserved its own thread. Keep in mind the direction of EZ-Robot and where its software is going. This way our wiki will support both older ezb models and future models and feature additions for ARC and SDK.

What this is : Im creating a page that will have links to important and useful information in the forums and a summary. The purpose is to make a hot list of common topics , mods ect that are generally useful. For example a thread where we plan to attend maker fair would have a short summary of dates location and whos going to be there and s link to the thread where this was discussed. This is just an example but it summarizes the information without searching through forum discussions that may be lengthy.

What this is NOT: This is not a place for discussions , starting new threads , promoting non related products or services. In no way will this replace the use of the forum. Just as we discuss or post important and useful info it may be posted on the wiki under the correct section with a summary and link to the place in a thread that was discussed.

If you have ideas for how this could be organized , ideas for section titles and what should or should not be on this page please have it in this discussion and if you want to avoid public scrutiny then email your suggestions to kandyred@gmail.com - Josh S

That's a neat idea! :)

I love this idea. It would be a great resource for us new guys! The pinball community did this a couple years ago on Wiki and it turned out great! Seemed like a ton of work though. My hat is off to you Josh. If you want to see how they organized things go to: http://pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

One section I would love to see is a section where there are ARC script examples. I don't know if it's within your guidelines but if would be nice is people could contribute scripts. They could post scripts that do different operations and interface EZB with different hardware.

Just a starting thought.

Thanks Josh for offering to do this.

Holy moly! That's a great idea! Lately, this has gotten more necessary.

@DJ, you really need to get Josh on the payroll. :D

blush Crikey! Should I delete it? :)

It has not been set up yet. Im shopping for providers for the wiki or if I will buy a url. Looking at options. Any suggestions?

Any reason for not using Wikipedia?

Like this: reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page

Because we run accross the occasional problematic members or ez robot customers I want to filter submissions to my wiki. Many wiki sites wont allow this type because its considered a form of advertisement. So I went with google because its free and those kids at Google are good at what they do.

https://sites.google.com/site/ezrobotwiki/

This is the current link . Its empty right now.

Can you run actual Wiki type submissions/edits on a Google site, or will you need to be doing all of the data entry and we'll have a method to submit articles to you?

(I have a google site on my own domain, but haven't really done anything with it yet, so this is more out of curiosity than anything).

Personally, I don't think it needs a better URL, most people will bookmark it anyway

Hey Alan , I can set permissions for each sections allowing them to be free edited or edited based on your google account login. I figure I could just have a link that allows a submission to be emailed to a email box for the wiki and from there filter through what makes sense to add in and where. Naturally we may need to summarize some submissions. Im thinking of having the wiki sections expand and contract when clicked to make more information fit into a compacted page.

Cool. I was just coming back to edit my post with this article I found:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/34248/how-to-create-a-wiki-without-any-technical-know-how-using-google-sites/

So, basically, the answer is yes, it can be run much like other WiKi software without too much difficulty, and you can assign edit privileges to specific people so you aren't stuck managing it all on your own.

Josh,

What kind of submissions are you looking for?

EZ Code examples? build ideas/pics?

Can you do categories like Wall-E / Omnibot / Etc?

#17

Yes absolutely! Sections for each production robot are ideal. That way you can click the robot of interest and see the projects already done for that kind of bot and a list of tips and mods related to that robot. For example a section for omnibots , omni 2k , robie jr ect.

@jstarne1

What is procedure for being granted editing/updating access to the wiki?

I am wanting to start the section on EZ-Scripting, currently the documentation is in a couple of different places and code snippets are in various locations...

@DJ Sures

What are your expectations / thoughts on placing a copy of the script commands and EZ-Script control code snippets/examples on this Wiki?

Having only been active on these forums a couple of months now I can only speak for recent questions asked, but a lot of the same issue does pop up, these should most definitely be addressed in the wiki...

Firmware upgrading issues and bugs Camera mod, camera pairing & low battery issue EZB dimensions, input voltages etc. (link to the manual) Wiring Sonar sensor which comes with the EZ Kit

Those are just 4 of the common things I find myself reading and answering.

I also wanted to just bump the topic so it doesn't get too buried :)
