Hey DJ and Jer...since you guys are on the dynamixel road...is there a chance you guys can take a look at the new XM series servos from dynamixel. A couple of us have tried to get these to work, but to no avail. Let me know I can send one to you to test with (with a return postage paid box. I have three of these totalling $700 that i cant use.
I’ll reach out to Robotis on that. We have a good relationship to start adding great support for their excellent servos
Woo hoo!!!!! Thank you! I need to rob a bank to afford the system I'm dreaming in my head...but it would be amazing to see in action...something I've been working on called a slave system.
Yes! Please add the XM series servos. They are used in Robotis's TurtleBot 3 kits.
Understood I’ll get on it this week.
I don’t have a Dynamixel v2 servo to test with yet either. So hopefully we get one of those ASAP as well
My offer still stands if you guys need a test servo.
Robotis is sending us a few servos to test with, including XM series. They said there are only two protocols (v1 & v2) - which the plugin supports. So your XM series should work if you configured it correct. The XM series are the only servos which can be configured for either protocol. But it's up to you to understand how to use it. If it works for me, i'll have to say user error
OldBotBuilder above had same issues as me. I've set up dozens of the dynamixels and never had an issue with EZ plug in and the servos. I have three XM series from their cheap $49 version upto the $220 version and none of them work. I set them up like the MX-64s that i have in all my robots but its a no go..tried protocol 1 and 2. Nothing works. Let me know your results when you get them. Could be programmers error
Make sure the protocol AND the ttl is configured. Because they won't work with the rs485. They need to be in TTL mode
Yeah there are two flavors of Dynamixels, 3 wire is TTL and 4 wire is the rs485..all my servos are TTL. They are easy to tell apart as the nomenclature has -T or -R after the servo. There is no way to flash them to be one or the other, they are either TTL or RS485 from the factory as stated by wire number.
Hopefully Robotis sent you TTL versions
We got all versions being sent
Have you guys had the time to test with the servos they sent? In particular had any time to test the XM servos?
No - not yet
