Going To The Dogs

Hello Its been a long time since I have been here. This may already have been addressed. Has anyone built or modified a dog type robot. I am interested in building or modifying a dog style robot. I want it to be someting more than a toy. It should be able to use recognition,  navigation and travel avoidance, and othe EZB features.  Any suggestions or advice? I want a new thought for a 2023 project

Hi Andy! It's good to see you back.

This guy from France did one about 10 years ago. There's not much info about it on his link though. However it looks like he did a pretty good job. I'm sure with what we have available to us today you could really make a very cool little dog that take advantage of most of ARC's new and old functions. There are many people and robot companies out in the wild making these little guys: https://synthiam.com/Community/Robots/toy-Say-You-Hello-449.

Hi Dave. Merry Christmas. Yeah, my wife wants a dog, so I'm thinking an EZB. We travel a lot so a robot could be cool. We'll see what happens.

Can you 3D print? That makes a big difference.

hi perry

who are you asking ?

Hello Nomad It's been a long time. I hope your doing ok.  Hi Perry. Good to hear you too.

I kind of have a concept. I'll first build something using a metal framework and the 12 dof idea. This way I can do some testing. The final unit probably will be a 3d printed frame with a stuffed dog cover. I may have to do a second idea if I add navigation. The main thing is the final unit will need to be fairly light.

hi andy

thats a cool robot dog . any more details , names , links . ?

Found it on Ebay. It uses ESP32 board. Programmable C++ Scratch 3.0. I will have to see if it is ARC compatible. ( I hope so ) Costs about $300.00 us shipped here. I might get it because it would cost me that much for parts to build. It may get here around the middle of January. Decision soon.  Wishing you well,. Andy

Thanks guys. Now you have me thinking about building one of these. LOL. I'd have to get a 3D printer and learn how to use it though. A whole new direction for me in robotics.

Andy, I know nothing about these dogs but I hope you keep sharing what you uncover. There's got to be lots of stuff out there on how to build these. I would imagine the leg servos would be the most expensive and hard to locate.

still no 3d printer
Not yet, I have other projects to finish first. Hopefully I'll get them finished before I get to old. LOL.

Hi Dave, Yeah that's the one. I"m going to get it. For the price I think it is worth it just for the framework and parts  Ill have to see if the ESP 32 board is compatible to ARC. I guess Ill have to start all over trying to remember how to program. LOL  I was never that good. Poor Antonn is sleeping in the corner. Maybe someday he will have a puppy to play with. Dave, you got to get a 3D printer. It opens up a whole new direction. Its not hard to learn and the benefits are great.

There are a lot of micro dog vids on youtube and it is a well documented build with a fair amount of developing going on. It's a good project but you need a printer.

#24

Hi Perry. I do have 3d printers but my plan is to see how big the dog I ordered actually is (and it is all aluminum). I also hope to see the operating program it uses. I can then decide which direction to go. The programming is my main concern. Like you said there are a lot of printable options and programs out there.

Once I receive the robot i ordered I will be closing this thread and go to the general listing to share my project.

Good luck Andy, we love projects here. Please share a lot of pics!
