Feedback From 2 Day Workshop

Just ran a two day workshop based around Adveturebot, a couple of pieces of feedback. Firstly there is a link to a place in the tutorial explaining what to if servos run at a different speed, this links to a page not found.

Secondly we had issues with Roboscratch, kids wanted to jump in and use it and it is NOT intuitive, the need to put 'sleep' commands after 'move' commands was hard for kids to grasp.

That aside the kids had a great time. User-inserted image

Awesome! Always a good idea to follow tutorials before jumping in and teaching a class. Contact Us for assistance to links to tutorials to catch up before your next class.

A sleep command is a programming command used to delay between commands. Find out more with the tutorials :).

Looking forward to seeing more activities from you like this - that's great!

@paulsk Great job! It's nice to see people helping kids get a start in new tech.

I was wondering, though, did you have any ideas on what might make RoboScratch more kid friendly and/or intuitive? Also any ideas for a script or scripts you would like to have for helping get certain points across to the kids, such as the usefulness of Sleep statements?

Hello Paul ! I am glad to hear you have used Ez Robot to teach a workshop. I would love to talk more about what you did , the kinds of activities and what you would have perhaps done different on your part to make things better. I am looking at starting a STEM workshop in my area and any input you can provide for those first classes would be great ! Kandyred@gmail.com

@DJ Sures, yes we did see the tutorials, the problem was we had a group of students who were working with the bots aged between 8 and 15, they were so excited about robots they just wanted them to go. In hindsight and before any more workshops I will be producing a short annotated video that I will run before we jump into programming

It would be nice to have scripted commands that would combine the move and sleep frames so there was an opportunity to place a variable into the command to make it move and wait xxxx mS before continuing - just about every other bot I use has this capability (although LEGO in their wisdom choose to hold the 'speed' variable to last known value, which is also annoying as you can start a new program with the speed set to 0!)

@jstarne1 feel free to contact me on paul@childrensworlduk.com I will try and answer any questions you have.
