I see the requirements for ARC on the page:
Minimum Operating System Requirements
Windows 7 minimum
Intel Pentium or AMD 64 or 32 Bit 1 GHz CPU
2 GB RAM
50 MB Drive space
I have an old UPMC (the precursor to a tablet), that I should be able to upgrade to Windows 7, however, it has a fixed, nonupgradeable amount of RAM, at 512mb of RAM. Is there any likelihood that I could get this to function as a controller of sorts, or is that just too little RAM, point blank period?
The UMPC I am referring to it the U750p: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_U-series

Windows 7 in 512mb of Ram?.... This should be interesting.... I think even if successful you'll find it seriously slow and even if ARC manages to run, I can't see it being very stable....
Sitting idle without a project loaded, ARC takes 31mb. With the JD example project, which is moderately complex, it takes 76mb but that is without video processing occurring.
Assuming you can slim down Windows 7 enough to even run in 512mb, you will certainly be unable to do voice recognition and probably not any video, but you might be able to do basic movement and scripting.

If you can get windows to run in that low of memory, ARC won't have an issue. ARC is actually very light weight, but the memory requirements are for an enjoyable user experience with an OS and expected various other software installed. So, yah you can do it - but it might not be enjoyable
Give it a try and let us know!
Ok thanks! Way back in the day it was reported to work. I'm not sure if Windows 7 can still be crammed into the machine, so who knows if it will still work. I would like to get some use out of that machine though.
Here are some links from an old thread (which may not exist anymore for "reasons") where we were talking about optimized/minimal installs of Windows 7. They might be of use to you:
http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-7-service-pack-1-service-configurations/ A good source for the services.
http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html Tweak Guides Tweak Companion is another great tool which is clear in what everything does.
[edit. removed 3rd link which is apparently dead now]
Ive tried it on an 1 gb ram single core dell dimension 3000 win 7 and ARC ran , but the machine idled at around 60 percent system resource without anything going on. Its doable but not ideal. hope this input helps!
Straight from Microsoft: "Windows 7 system requirements
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver"
Personally I wouldn't even touch a windows 7 pc with 1/2 a gig of ram. Windows 7 can be demanding at times. I think you'll get out of memory errors a lot.
I do not want to open a new post.
What is the smallest requirement for a mobile phone? I read only this phone need Android. But which number? How old can that be? Which Android version do I need at least? I could not find any information.
Do you have a favorable recommendation? I need a really small cell phone. The new project is not very big. Thank you
The cell phone would not mount on your project. You would carry that in your pocket or hand. You would need an ezb or loTiny Mounted on your project to receive the signals and run your robot.
