I have been looking at the site and am very exsited/interested! I have begun to plan a bot, but I have a couple of questions. Under the "store" tab I have noticed a 6-wheeled chasiss. Does that come ready to plug into my computer or do I need to buy the "brain" and servos for it? Also where is it possible to get the "parrot" flier (it is not available under the store tab)? I am also curious about mounting LEDs.
My basic plan it to make a mobile, all-terrain platform for an airial drone. I would like to be able to use the base for ground based survealence, and the drone for airial survealence.
A large part of this project would be fun/hobby. However, if the robots perform well I would be interested in using them at work (I am a security guard). If I were to go this route I would need the ability to record from the camera, as well as shine bright lights into dark places.
Any information reguarding my questions would be helpful. Also open to any encouragement/suggestions about improving my idea.
Due to finances, this project will be a few months in the making. In light of this I would like to start with the basics needed to start the project, and make addons as money permits. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Welcome,
Many years ago I worked security... oh to have the toys we have now, back then
The Dagu Wild Thumper 6WD All-Terrain Chassis is just the frame, suspension, motors & wheels (and EZ-Robot has the best price I have seen yet!). You must add a motor controller, EZ-B (the interface board) and batteries to drive it remotely via Bluetooth (your PC becomes the "brains" via ARC)... but then your options are near unlimited for sensors and such to go semi- autonomous, and longer range remote control. I have seen videos on what it can do and have been drooling over it myself... one day Gadget, one day
The AR Parrot Drone is another of my dreams... They are purchasable via "The Source" in Canada (aka Radio Shack for you). Check out www.ardrone.parrot.com
The only issue I am aware of on the drone is that the 2.0 version may not have full video connection via ARC yet. I understand DJ is working on it... at least I hope
because I really want one of the new models for my EZ-Robot experimenting... the price is right!
Gunner
Thanks Gunner! I found the AR drone site and it appears that the drone will bump up my budget by quite a bit. Therefore, I think I will focus on just the Thumper for now. Since I am not allowed to have a dog where I live I was thinking of doing some programming for the Thumper to take on a watchdog application. Also, at work I plan to use it as a semi-autonomous partner for those security jobs that really need two guards, instead of just one.
I'm interested in the use of robots for surveillance, I think one of its features would have to be waterproof and assume any meteorology whether to work abroad. What kind of "plane" are planning to work with the platform, a hexacopter cadricopter or maybe? If so, I also I have a project at hand hexacopter, although, not for robotics. greetings.
