I had an unusual request come my way in 1999 from the University of Utah. They wanted me to create for some 500,000 K-12 students in the state a program that would inspire all students to want to learn more difficult subjects and excel as my own children were doing at the University. My family were in heavy construction and my kids grow up working. So after recovering from the sock of the huge risk that could be, an idea pop into my mind to let the students build robots that worked in construction. That way I could control the risk and still let the students gain real world experience. Only problem was we did have the technology we needed to really make this possible until 2020. Still in 2003 I built a 6 axis robot from scratch in my garage to get the knowledge. Now some 25 years later all the technology is now ready. I found Synthiam just a week or so ago. I have started a small 4H club to get a feel for helping K-12 students to build robots that "pay for themselves". And plan to take that to the now 720 thousands students in Utah and all the rest world.
