Transitioning From ARC Pro To Runtime

I have a question regarding the transition from ARC Pro to ARC Runtime for a friend whose ARC Pro subscription has expired, preventing him from loading his projects. Since renewing his subscription is not essential, as the development of his robot is complete, we intend to transition him to ARC Runtime. However, before making this switch, we need to make some final adjustments to his project. Therefore, I plan to purchase a one-month ARC Pro subscription to make these necessary adjustments and then proceed with downloading and setting up ARC Runtime for him.

My question is: Are there any tips or specific steps I should be aware of when reactivating his ARC Pro subscription for one month before quickly transitioning to ARC Runtime? For instance, is it possible to complete this transition within the same day? Will it be necessary to uninstall the current version of ARC Pro before installing ARC Runtime? Are there any other important considerations we should keep in mind during this process?

Thank you!

Below is some advice on transitioning from ARC Pro to ARC Runtime for a completed robot project:

  1. Perform Your Final Adjustments First
Before making any changes, use your temporary onemonth ARC Pro subscription to complete any tweaks or adjustments you need in the project.
Make sure to save and thoroughly test your project while still in ARC Pro.

  2. Backup Your Project
It’s highly recommended to create a backup of your project files. This way you can always revert or reference your changes if needed during the transition.

  3. Timing of the Transition
The process can be performed quicklyeven within the same dayonce your final changes are complete.
Ensure you complete all necessary updates in ARC Pro before exporting or switching to ARC Runtime.

  4. Installation Considerations
ARC Runtime is designed to run your projects without an active ARC Pro subscription.
Generally, it is best practice to uninstall ARC Pro before installing ARC Runtime to avoid any potential conflicts. However, check the latest instructions on our website because in some cases the two versions may co-exist if installed in separate directories.
Once you’re satisfied with your project adjustments, download ARC Runtime from the Synthiam website (see ARC Downloads for more details).

  5. Testing Under ARC Runtime
Once the conversion is complete, open your project in ARC Runtime and test all functionalities.
Note that although the core capabilities are the same, some advanced or development features (available only in ARC Pro) might work differently or not be present in ARC Runtime.

  6. Other Considerations
Verify your settings, especially if your project involved custom robot skills or scripts. Make sure that everything operates as expected in runtime mode.
If you ever want to go back to ARC Pro, you can reinstall it with an active subscription. Just ensure you have your project backups handy.

Do you have any other questions about the subscription reactivation or the transition process? Feel free to ask!

Runtime is the same as ARC Pro without saving or configuration options. So, just create a project for him and load it into runtime.

Cloud services like Bing speech recognition are the only things that don't work with runtime.

Humm, That is useful to know.

So what I'm reading from you is that if I have the Bing SR skill installed it won't work with Runtime? Is the only way to get them to work is paying for the Pro sub?

Correct - because Bing speech recognition costs Synthiam money because we pay other businesses on your behalf to use it. Synthiam acts as a middle-man between you and corporations that offer these services that ARC uses. Your subscription essentially pays for Bing speech recognition and other services. The services included with the subscription, such as Azure text-to-speech, Bing speech recognition, cognitive vision, cognitive sentiment, cloud storage, etc, are what the pro subscription is paying for. Synthiam doesn't make any money from subscriptions at the end of the day - it's just covering the services for ARC to run.

OK, thanks for the explanation. That makes sense.

Isn't there (or was there at one time) a skill for Bing Speech Recognition that we can use with our own key we get through Bing? I thought I was able to do that a few years ago. If so is this alternative Bing SR skill as robust as the current one paid for by Synthiam through our subscription?
