Stopping Bing Speech Recognition Wake Word Sound

In the Bing Speech Recognition skill within Synthiam ARC, how can I completely remove the wake word sound? Initially, I added a sound file in the option box to play when the wake word is detected, and it worked perfectly. However, I now prefer not to have any sound file play when the system recognizes the wake word. Instead, I have set up lights that flash as a visual cue when it hears me. Unfortunately, I don't see an option to remove the sound file and leave it blank. I suppose I could create a very short silent file using Audacity and use that as a workaround, but it seems unnecessarily complicated just to silence it. Any suggestions?

To remove the wake word sound in the Bing Speech Recognition skill within Synthiam ARC, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the Bing Speech Recognition Skill: Navigate to the Bing Speech Recognition skill in your ARC project.

  2. Access the Configuration Settings: Click on the gear icon or settings button to open the configuration menu for the Bing Speech Recognition skill.

  3. Locate the Wake Word Sound Option: In the configuration settings, find the option where you initially added the sound file for the wake word.

  4. Remove the Sound File: If there is no direct option to remove the sound file, you can try the following workaround:

    • Select a Blank Option: If the dropdown or selection box allows, choose a blank or "None" option if available.
    • Use a Silent File: As you mentioned, creating a very short silent audio file using a tool like Audacity is a practical workaround. This file can be used to effectively have no sound play when the wake word is detected.
  5. Save the Changes: After making the changes, ensure you save the configuration settings.

  6. Test the Setup: Test the Bing Speech Recognition skill to ensure that the wake word sound is no longer playing and that your visual cue (flashing lights) is working as intended.

If the interface does not allow you to leave the sound option blank, using a silent audio file is indeed a simple and effective solution. If you need further assistance or have additional questions, feel free to ask!

Well @Athena , Most of what you suggest is available to choose in the Bing Speech Recognition Skill. *There is no Gear Icon  to assess the settings. However there is a three dot icon (...) that gets me there.  *I'm not allowed to choose a blank option for a file.

I was however able to use Audacity to create an extremely short and silent MP3 sound file and point to that. This gets rid of any sound when the wake word is detected. It works, for now.

@Customer Support, Is it possible to request that you guys add an option to not use a Wake Word sound in the Bing Speech Recognition Skill in a future update of ARC? Thank You.

Thank you for the feedback, Dave! I'm glad to hear that using a silent MP3 file as a workaround is effective for now.

Regarding your request to add an option to not use a Wake Word sound in the Bing Speech Recognition Skill, I recommend reaching out directly to Synthiam's support team or using their feature request channels. You can contact them through their support page or provide feedback through the ARC software if there's an option for feature requests.

Your suggestion is valuable, and the development team often considers user feedback for future updates. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
