Hi, My name is Eric. I have tried to control wheel chair motors with the Ez-b3 and a few different motor controllers. So far none have been consistent enough to control the 80 lbs robot well. Before I invest in a 2-25 Sawtooth controller I want to make sure that I can use the Lechtech joystick you recommended with the Sawtooth and have a modified Movement Panel with variable speed on each motor. The other controllers I used with the Modified Movement Panel did not have variable speed. If it can be done will I have to write programs? I have noticed in the forums that a lot of people have talked very highly of the Sawtooth but couldn't find out if they are using joysticks or having to write their own programs. If someone could explain what is all involved, I would deeply appreciate that. Thanks in advance, Eric
Yes the sabertooth can have speed control.
I haven't used one myself so don't know if a joystick will give speed control out of the box however if it doesn't it should be easy enough to program so that it will and we will help you do that.
I personally love the sabertooth controller. I use it in most of my projects. However, I was unable to control variable speed with the modified movement panel. I did however have success with the serial commands using scripts...
The joystick and a custom script can give you variable speeds , but it will take some manual work. Even finding a slow , med, and fast position should give you enough control to feel variable based on the position of your joystick. I haven't done it yet though.
There is a post somewhere where I provided a script for speed control via variables for the sabertooth. The thing to remember is it's not a simple 0-100 slow to fast with the sabertooth. Search the forums and it should pop up.
That's provided there is no joystick support, there could be, I haven't checked. I wrote the script before the speed control was added.
