I know I am going to be asked about battery life no end of times, I just wondered if there was any other power source for limited motion. Like some kind of umbilicus that can bypass the battery, but still use the body with shoulder servos - would be hand for schools working with scripting.
That would be a DC desktop power supply. Look on ebay
@paulsk
As @jstarne has mentioned, a wall adapter is what your looking for. You will want to find one (correct voltage of course) that will deliver about 15 amps upwards for powering and controlling servos.
Here are the specifications that you will need to control JD from an AC/DC wall adapter:
*Note: A PC Power Supply will not work because it is only 5 volts. You need minimum 7.4 volts and 20 amps.
This is the closest I have found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/0-30-Volt-0-20-Amp-Adjustable-DC-Power-Supply-CSI3020X-/381030705865?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58b7332ac9
Or this is a little cheaper: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TekPower-HY3020-SWITCHING-DC-POWER-SUPPLY-VARIABLE-0-30-VOLTS-0-20-AMPS/271786203570?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D72e0433d9a38418cb3400e75220df2f4%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D381030705865&rt=nc
DJ - do you ever sleep? Thanks for that, is there any easy way to hook that into the humanoid body?
Not without taking the battery out of jd. It's easy to open him up - only takes 4 screws and he body seperates into two.
Thanks DJ, will have to give it a go, will have to get an adapter.
On a side note, can you give Jake a nudge to get in touch with Rob and Matt at the Tablet Academy about becoming a reseller, we have had a ton of interest from people at the show.
Thanks
Paul
Will do! I'll send him this link now. Thanks for the heads up. I know we have a bunch of resellers waiting in line - it's hard to get enough inventory for everyone
I think all they want to is be approved, we will be doing a programming and robotics tour in the coming months.
Pinged him - he's on it
