Hi everyone,
I am currently trying to present and hopefully sell EZ-robots to schools in the middle east. We have been using the robots for 3 months now and we go to different meetings and demonstrations with the robots to gain some attention.
But we have a problem: Burned out servos. At the moment we are having troubles with 5-6 different servos. They simply stop working or snap in the middle of movements. Last time we were at a demo, JD's arm suddenly broke and went the wrong way during a pushup script. We immediatly replaced the servo with another one, but now the problem is that SIX is only working as spare-parts.
I would like to know if some of you guys are facing the same problem with burned out servos? we have tried to open up a few of them, to check for mistakes and on one of them, the chip is melted. On two of the others, the motor is working just fine when we connect it to 6V batteries, but they don't move when connected to the chip, even though nothing appear to be wrong. On the last 2-3 nothing happens, so we suspect that the motors are burned out.
To me it just seems too fast with these burn-outs, because if we are selling them to schools, they should be working for a long time.
Kind regards, Benjamin
I
thank you
One of my servos burned out today after just a few weeks of sporadic use. It was located on JD's right upper leg from his view. I have done the manual and fine servo calibrations as required. I saw smoke emanating from the servo just prior to discovering it had failed. From the time I purchased the robot about three weeks ago my wife and I both noticed a burned smell after I turned him on, but I did not think much of it. Is there any chance EZ Robot will replace this servo for me? I do not think I did anything to cause the problem.
It would have been better to make this comment in a new thread, but anyways...
If you did not cause the issue(i.e. the problem started from day 1) then yes, that is a bad servo that is under warranty. If you caused the servo not to be able to move, or to move past the limits, then that's at your expense. If the servo was bad on day one, go to the Contact Us page, select warranty , and link this thread and I guess say which post cause your using someones thread for this.
Hi all!. I have an JD Humanoid and the servo failed in his left shoulder .... Have dismatled the servo and all the electronics works after desolder the motor. Shorted conection (0.1 ohms) between the poles. It looks like that the brush in the motor has worn out ... I did straighten the brush and did get it to work in one direction, but if I reversed the rotation the brush was split again ... I now have a oneway motor
Looks like the brush is to short and get stuck in the gaps in the commutator when it revers direction.
I havent used the JD for many hours (1-2..) and the servos havent been that much used. Unfortunaly its more than one year ago I bought him :/
EZ Robot doesn't have stock right now... Why go through all that trouble trying to fix a servo... You can just pick an MG995 from eBay for $10 or so... Buy a couple so you have spares...
Hehe, yes unfortunaly they are cheap and not that reliable, luckily I have a stack of such broken servos (MG995) with faulty electronics in ... so just have to change the motor (that is the same sice!). ... Its only to confirm that the supplied servos are not of any higher quality ... "You get what you pay for"
Might be a plan to change all the servos for some that are more reliable... or to scrap the servo thing that are not that good for more precise motions.
