Brand New To Robotics And To Ez Robot

Hi All,

I am very new to EZ-robot and I think I am having a problem with basic servo calibration:

(1) I have connected the blue tooth and I see the red and blue lights blinking (2) When I checked the bluetooth device it said that I am on COM 8 (3) when I run the ezbot servo calibration I get the following error:

Received: Disconnected Comm Err: Not Connected BbytesToExpect: 0

(4) Any suggestions to what I may be doing wrong or how I should troubleshoot?

Thanks!

I have checked the firmware upgrade as well and this is the message I received. So I don't think it is a firmware issue.

Firmware Updater Version: 2013.03.18.00 20/05/2013 12:02:46 PM - Begin

Attempting connection on COM8 Connected to COM8 at 9600 EZ-B reports EZ-B Firmware V16 Connected Your EZ-B has the latest firmware. There is no need to update. Disconnected

I have noticed that when I load servo-calibrate, I receive this message: Is this what I supposed to see?

Received Disconnected TCP Server stopped TCP Server stopped TCP Server stopped TCP Server stopped TCP Server stopped

Thanks in advance for any advice you anyone is able to provide.

First, connect to it using windows Devices and Printers tab and pressing add new device. Then you connect to the ez-b.(if you are connecting for the first time it may be called linvor or something like that.) it will then tell you to enter pairing code. its 1234.

Heres Dj's connection vid:

When you connect to the ez-b the red Bluetooth light should stop blinking and the blue light should stop pulsing.

Thanks for responding Technopro.

I believe I did this already (but I am very new to this, so perhaps not). I connected using bluetooth using windows and I entered the pairing code 1234. When I go into bluetooth devices I can see an EZ-Robot icon. When I click on properties I see the following:

Hardware: Standard Serial Over Bluetooth Ports (COM & LPT)

Services: Serial SSP 'DEV B' COM 8

Troubleshooting Information:

Connection: Authenticated Last connection: Currently connected Serial Number: Unavailable MAC Address: Unavailable Unique Identifier: 00:13:01:09:14:40 IP address: Unavailable

I deleted the bluetooth connection and then rediscovered it and entered the paring code "1234" again as well.

Any additional thoughts on where I might have gone wrong?

Basic steps.

  1. Pair the EZ-B with the PC (which I see you have done)
  2. Open the calibrate project
  3. Check the com port in the connection control is correct (COM8 in your case I believe)
  4. Click on connect.
  5. Run the calibration script.

If that doesn't work try starting a new project with no controls, set the COM port in the connection and try connecting. If it fails post the info in the debug windows on here.

Oh, you may need to refresh the connections control after you connect the ez-b to the computer.

Try opening the project, then connect the ez-b to your computer, then refresh the connections control and try to connect.

@biominetic - Is COM 8 your lowest number? The EZB usually has 2 COMs (I'm not sure of the details why but there is a valid reason) You need to be connecting to the lowest COM so, if you have COM 7 available in the list try that. It's an easily overlooked detail, especially when you are new to EZRobot and Robotics like you and I.

Com8 is correct since he updated the f/w on com8.

Its either a case of forgetting/not knowing to hit the connect button or a brownout causing disconnect from the looks of it.

@biomenetic- I agree with Rich based on the limited information, its possibly a brownout ( voltage sag below 5 volts under load) it can happen many servos operate at once and use more current than a power source can support. How many servos do you have and are any high torque? If you are using the AA battery pack and several servos you will want to upgrade batteries or get a stronger battery pack all together.
