5V Servos And Ezb4 5V Regulator

Hi all been here some time doing listening not speaking and cant wait for my ezb4 to arrive. I have built a full size R2 and have all the dome servos in place ready to install my ezb problem I have is will the board power the servos at 5v or will I need the in line regulator fitting. It is tight for space now and I just hope I can fit it all in.

Hope I don't have to change all the servos!

Many thanks

The V4 passes through the Vcc from the battery/supply without any regulators therefore the servos will need a regulated 5V supply.

Regulators are pretty small. You could use one for all servos or one per servo, or anything in between (provided the max current draw doesn't exceed the max current the regulator can handle).

It depends what servos you are using, and how much power your battery is. I would recommend switching to our lipo's. If they are our plastic or metal servos, they can be powered off our batteries with no regulator needed.

Hi DJ

Very small 3.7g type they can only handle 6v max can the Ezb4 run off 5v input giving 5v per pin or does it require the full 7.2v to operate.

many thanks in advance

What about PowerSonic's gel cells. 9AH 12v batteries. I have them regulated down to 7.2 volts. But, I could let them operate at 12.6V.

I am using the HD3315 and the D3609 Heavy Duty servos with 15Kg for the arms and neck.

What do you think D.J. ?

@MovieMaker, not a good idea to use the full 12 volts from the gel cells to apply to the servos. I haven't seen any servos rated for 12vdc operation.

JOSH, the BUCK regulators worked for you , didn't they? I am going to put one on EVERY servo. (Wish me luck. I have 16 of them. 14 in the arms and two in the neck. one for the ultrasound scan). I have to find a way to place them and I have very little room in Sunshine.

robodoc, I was not going to use 12v on anything but my h-bridge and gearbox of the omnibot2000. The rest was to be regulated 7.2V. Two EZBs and 16 HeavyDuty servos for two arms and neck and a 6v servo for PING scan..
