How To Recover Auto-Position Actions From A Project

, I loaded the JD robot example with 12 controls into ARC. I modified it by adding new actions and frames, then saved it as "JD-JP-new" on my PC. Initially, I was able to load it once, but now I can't load it anymore. The cursor just spins indefinitely, and eventually, a pop-up window appears saying ARC is not responding. It gives me the option to either close the program or wait for it to respond, but I end up having to close it. I've tried rebooting my PC, but the problem persists. I'm using the latest version of ARC, and I can load other projects without any issues. I'm concerned that my "JD-JP-new" file might be corrupted. I don't understand why this happened since I used the save command. Unfortunately, I didn't export the Auto Position skill. I can reload the standard built-in JD project and modify it, but it doesn't contain the new actions I created. I checked the ARC folder, including Auto Positions and Project Backups, but they are empty. Is there any way to recover the actions I created in "JD-JP-new"?

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your JD-JP-new project file. Let's try a few steps to see if we can recover your Auto Position actions:

  1. Check for Backup Files:

    • Sometimes, ARC automatically creates backup files. Check the default project directory for any files with a .bak extension. If you find one, try renaming it to a .ezb file and attempt to open it in ARC.
  2. Inspect the Project File:

    • If you suspect the file might be corrupted, you can try opening it with a text editor to see if there's any readable content. Look for any obvious issues, such as incomplete tags or missing sections, which might indicate where the corruption occurred.
  3. Recreate the Project:

    • If you can't recover the file, you might need to recreate the project. Load the standard JD project and manually add your new actions and frames. This time, make sure to export the Auto Position skill separately as a backup.
  4. Export Auto Position Skill:

    • Once you have recreated your actions, export the Auto Position skill by right-clicking on the skill in the ARC project and selecting "Export." This will save your actions and frames as a separate file that can be imported into other projects.
  5. Check for Software Updates:

    • Ensure that you are using the latest version of ARC. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs that might cause issues like this.
  6. Contact the Community:

    • If you're still having trouble, consider reaching out to the Synthiam community. Other users might have experienced similar issues and could offer additional solutions.
  7. Prevent Future Issues:

    • Regularly save your project with different filenames (e.g., JD-JP-new-v1, JD-JP-new-v2) to create multiple versions. This way, if one file becomes corrupted, you have previous versions to fall back on.

You can post the project here and I can take a look.

One thing Athena didn't say is you can try the import option. That way you can import the robot skills individually and see what happened. But posting it here to be examined is the best way.

Oops! Thanks for letting me know. I'm currently working on creating the actions/frames and had removed the file in question. I didn’t want to keep it in case it was corrupted. Actually, creating actions is quite fast. The auto-positioning tool is really awesome.

That's great, thanks! If that happens again, share the project; at the end, we can look at what could be recovered. I've only seen a corrupt project once or twice, so it's rare. Computers can be weird, so you never know what to expect:D
