Wall E Arms 60 % Custom Build

First off thanks a bunch for the support.

I have a custom wall e build I will be using ezrobot in, I want to articulate his arms like wall-e arms from the body i want them to go up down 20- 90 up down i would like to have them open up hug style as well I am not sure of the servo to get for this or a linkage system anyone have any ideas on a servo that could handle the weight?

Thanks

KAMP

Hi kamp , I love the weathering detail. It is very realistic. I believe you are talking about the arms moving through the slot like in the movie is that right?

kampswasThat's a great idea. How much weight are you anticipating your arms to support ? I ask because you might have to use mini or micro servos due to the scale size of your wall-e which will limit the amount of overall weight for placing on the servos used.

Yeah, some one made that motion. Search in project showcase.

I forget the members name. But its probably the best wall-e done. He has some amazing attention to detail.

Thanks, for the input,

I was looking at CAPTAIN ANN by Steve S https://synthiam.com/Community/Questions/3180 his arms do what I want them to do, minus the telescoping Mini fergelli(sp?) actuators which i may add later he uses the 1/4 Servos, to raise his arms but he said his arms are foam, I could make the arms out of Balsa wood that will cut down on the weight but not sure if they could take the weight, servos are new for me I am an r2 builder use to pretty heavy droids.

kampswas, That is one beautiful R2 robot! It looks like life size scale? I have several non-functional Hasbro R2,s and thought about adding an EZB3 to one of them. For now I have been busy exploring ARCs excellent features like SendSerial to my I-robot Create platform and adjusting to new PC windows 8.1. It is a goal to build complete arms for "Ann". Welcome and happy building. Steve S

Thanks Steve Yes he is fulll size I have a full size r2 as well, When approaching WALL-e I didnt want another full ROBOT I wanted something I could drive around the house and have some fun with versus running over my children with r2 who is 250 lbs.

I liked your approach to the arms. I am going that way with my wall-e what are the models of the servos? can they handle the weight?

or should I do everything in the Shoulder servos? Your robot solved my approach to the problem thanks!

Kevin, I had planned the shoulder 1/4 scale servos to handle most of the upward movement wt. Here are pics of the shoulder servos (old) and arm (EZ Robot standard) servos that I used.
