I have an Omnibot 5402 and with the help from ez-robot.com I am excited about bringing life to my Bot that I have not used since I was 7. To let you know I am 37 now.
My question is the servo for the head - I am going to make my omnibot into a moveable bot with the ez-robot kit but I am also going to install a PC inside as well. My idea I want to place a small projector in one of the eyes for the monitor of the pc side.
What I need to know is the servo for the head....Can it rotate 180 degrees to face the back of the robot in order to project the pc screen on the wall?
I guess it depends on the servo you choose, the Omni doesn't come with a servo in his head originally.
Most (if not all) standard servos rotate approx. 180 degrees, so he would look left and right but not behind. Why not have the drive wheels turn the Omni 180 degrees to face backwards if he needs to project on to the wall?
Although to be honest I would be more concerned about fitting the PC and projector along with EZ-B, batteries, h-bridge, servos etc in to the Omni... That's a lot of stuff, and a lot of demand, for the space inside the Omni.
My ultimate goal is to use my toshiba laptop as the computer inside. I am getting a windows surface for christmas and I would no longer need my laptop any more.
I am going to use the keyboard on my laptop and mount it in the omnibot 5402 tray as a keyboard stand. By doing this I want to place a small projector inside one of the eyes and have the head turn 180 degrees around to project the monitor image on to a wall.
Of course inside the omnibot it will have the ez-b stuff to run like the videos.
I don't think the servo will move enough for you. It will move 180 degrees, which will turn around entirely - but only if you don't expect the robot head to also look the other direction.
I think your robot will be pretty awesome
Is there a servo that could rotate 360 degrees maybe? Maybe a heavy duty type servo?
This is my showcase of the before picture of my omnibot and toshiba laptop as seperate units. I will update as I go along but for now here is the link:
Minion8 or as I call him M8 (Mate)
There is not. But beware, if you search to find a 360 degree servo - that actually means "continuous rotation". You'll find many servos called 360 degree if you search... But trust me, they're not
Maybe I can find away to cut open the back of the head and mount it this way? We will see in time. Thanks for the info.
