Introduction

Hi, My name is Noggin and I'm a roboholic....

Ok, so my real name is John Butler and yes, I'm still a roboholic. I've been designing and programming bots off and on for the past 7-8 years. I've recently been playing around with some Arduino hardware while working on an autonomous Quadracopter, but am now looking to start a telepresence robot and figured I'd give EZ-B a shot at it. So....here I am.

Nice to meet you Noggin John Butler! Welcome to the group:) Looking forward to seeing your telepresence robot.

Do you have any plans or requirements?

The plans are all in my head...which is kinda scary when you stop to think about it.

Essentially, I'm looking at a nice heavy base built with electric wheelchair wheels/motors that will also house the batteries (I want enough amperage for a 12-14 hour day). I'll then put some type of post up the center to mount a tablet to for video conferencing. All the other electronics (EZ-B, Fit PC, 4g modem, etc) Will probably be mounted in the base or sitting right on top of it.

I figure I can remote desktop to the Fit PC (that will be controlling the EZ-B) over the 4G connection (or wifi if available) and just vid chat to the tablet. I might use a USB lcd as a secondary monitor instead of the tablet, but I'll figure that out when I get to that point.

So, its a really simple bot, just have to get all the pieces together and functional. (I know, I just jinxed myself)

Well the EZ-B should make it a snap! So you're going for a SheldonBot style robot eh? I like it. EZ-B can handle everything you are talking about doing, but you will need and ESC to run those big motors. If you check the forum there are several folks who are working on wheel chair based bots and they can be a wealth of information. Welcom to the group!

@Noggin, bret is right. It'll only be a few mouse clicks to have a working telebot:) The fun challenge is when you begin adding custom features. That's when the creative side of ARC really shines! It'll be wicked to see your telebot.

EZ-Robot should make some feature which allows other EZ-Robot Community people to control their robots when allowed. That would be neat. So I could be in the lab and have any of you come visit me through Wall-e or one of the robots.

I should do something about that....

Welcome @Noggin, this is a great place to get your creative gears greased!

And DJ Sures what an idea.... to have my robot come up to me and say, "Hi - I'm ? from ?... I thought I'd come visit your workshop..."

Or even better my students could visit other classrooms anywhere and look around!

Awesome idea !
