Identifying Iotiny Devices In Classroom

If I have a classroom of 20 students, each working on projects using an IoTiny, how can I help them identify their specific IoTiny when attempting to establish a connection? Each IoTiny appears with a unique ID in the list of available WiFi connections, but I am unable to determine a method for identifying which ID corresponds to which student's device. Could you provide guidance or suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Either put a sticky with the last three digits of the WiFi name. Or go into the admin and give them a custom name. Or if they’re in client mode give them a broadcast name.

Below is a few suggestions that you can pass along to your students:

  1. Physically Label the Device:
One simple method is to label each IoTiny with a sticky note or tag. For example, you could note the last three digits of the WiFi network name (the unique ID) on the device. That way, when they scan for available connections, they can match the label to the broadcast ID.

  2. Customize the Broadcast Name:
Using the EZ-B Settings skill, you can change the default WiFi settings. Encourage students to go into the admin settings (or use the EZ-B Settings skill) to give their device a custom name. This custom name will then be broadcast and appear on the available connections list. This is particularly useful if they’re running the IoTiny in client mode.
Further details are available on the EZ-B Settings documentation:
    EZ-B Settings Skill

  3. Set a Broadcast Name in Client Mode:
If the IoTiny is in client mode, you can also configure it to broadcast a custom name directly. This helps easily separate each device by student or project without needing extra labels.

  4. Using EZB Connect By Name:
With the EZB Connect By Name skill, students can connect to their device using the customized name rather than the default numerical ID. This makes the entire setup process more intuitive in a classroom environment. See more details here:
    EZB Connect By Name Skill

By implementing one or a combination of these suggestions, each student will have an easier time identifying and connecting to their own IoTiny.

Does this cover what you need, or would you like more detailed step-by-step guidance on how to set up a custom name broadcast using the EZ-B Settings skill?
