Hi, is there a way to reset the bluetooth on the EZ-B ? I was connected to it with one laptop and trying with another Windows 7 machine and I cant detect it. Any ideas ? I have version V3..
You don't need to reset bluetooth, that isn't how it works.
Does it still detect it on the original computer?
First thing to ask is if you are using the native microsoft bluetooth stack or a third party one on the new pc? If a third party one remove it and install the microsoft one, it's the only bluetooth stack that is supported by the EZB as third party stacks are often unstable.
If you have the microsoft bluetooth stack installed then the next step is to check the EZB side of things. As basic as it sounds I always ask is it powered on?
If powered on, is the red light on the bluetooth module flashing? If it's flashing then it is disconnected and waiting for a connection.
Once the red light is flashing you need to pair the EZB to the PC. In the tray by the clock should be the bluetooth icon, right click on it and choose "Add a device".
A dialogue box will appear and show all discovered bluetooth devices. The EZB should be in there. Sometimes it is listed with a different name (for the life of me I cannot remember what name it sometimes shows up as but whatever it is will be the same as what was on the laptop). You need to select it and follow the on screen prompts so that it is paired and adds 2 new COM ports.
Once those are installed, open ARC and select the lowest of the 2 new com ports and attempt connection. If it fails try again a few times. If it failed 3 or more times in a row change the com port to the highest (purely to eliminate it for being the problem) and try 3 more times.
If it still fails to connect add the debug control to your ARC project and attempt reconnection. The debug control will output debug information. If you can't understand what it's telling you copy and paste it in here and we will take a look at it.
Hi and thanks for your quick answer. I deleted the profile from the original computer it was connected to and now that computer does not see it either. Yes, the red LED is blinking. I also tried to see if I can see it with my ipad but it just doesnt show up when trying to pair it. I am using the built-in Windows 7 Bluetooth software. I dont have any third party software installed. Thanks ! Mike
Your EZ-B is equipped with a class 2 bluetooth device. Normal operational distance is 10 feet on a good day. Three feet would be an optimal distance to attempt discovery using your ipad or PC.
Also try unplugging the Bluetooth board from your EZ-B and then plug it back and test.
10 feet? I get at least 20, usually more with line of sight when we attend events.
Heck, two days ago I had 20 feet in a grade 5 classroom demo. We had wall-e exploring the whole classroom, from wall to wall.
It will depend on your laptop hardware, as well as interference around the ez-b Bluetooth module.
If you are experiencing a connectivity loss after 10 feet, I would disable your internal Bluetooth and purchase one of our USB Bluetooth antennas. They work wonderful. If you watch some of our event videos, you'll see robots cruising 20+ feet from the laptops.
There is an event today at the Telus World of Science sponsored by EZ-Robot. These robots are more than 20 feet from their computers, being controlled by the public.
