Tiny 11 On Tiny Computers

I'm not a fan of Windows 11 - but if that's our only option moving forward, guess we'll have to figure out how to live with it. This video uses a utility that shows how to strip down windows 11 to only take 8 gb of ram and need only 2gb of ram! Perfect for robot hardware

Tiny 11 sounds great.  So did you try it with ARC?  Multitasking operating systems are amazing except when you don't want to multitask.  I remember installing DOS 4 on all the computers I managed for a company so employees could run multiple applications at the same time. They called it multitasking but it was really Task Switching and yes it was clunky and took a while to switch between applications and the background application paused and there was no common gui so it was not ideal but you could see where they were going. Windows then came along and gave us true multitasking with more of a unix type desktop experience but for environments you only need a single application on.  Robots, Games, Appliances, These all want 100% of the CPU and RAM resources and don't need to do 100 things in the background that's where things started to go down hill. They chew resources, need more CPU, more RAM, more storage and consume additional power.

Windows embedded was a good solution for these types of applications. I think these days it is now called it windows IoT.  It would be interesting to see if you can run ARC on Windows IoT so you have a minimal OS that is really just running ARC and nothing else.

So, DJ, do you think a old Lumia phone could run ARC or am I totally off base here?

I Guess this could work on Latte Panda 4 Gig Ram? How long do you think we can keep running the Win 10 before ARC needs win11 to run properly? I still remember when win7 stopped working years ago all types of error popped up.

I loaded this on a cheep Windows tablet I am using for my project and it is working really well so I am happy I did the update. It had a bloated Window 11 version that came on it with a bunch of extra junk loaded on it.  Much cleaner now and seems to be faster than it was...

Oh that’s good to know. I have a robot I’m building and haven’t used this yet. Looking forward to it! I should do this with all my bots. Thanks for checking for us!

Good to know what cpu /RAM do you have?  I wonder if it will run ok on a $100 stick PC or maybe those really small mini PC for about $130 CAD.  https://a.aliexpress.com/_msQBs9E

I guess the number / type of plug-ins you use would slow it down.

I ended up ordering this beelink today as my test pc for tiny 11.   It has similar specs to the rock pi x (z8350 4GB/64Gb usb3 5GHz wifi) so it should be ok. Cost $100 cad including $3 shipping to Canada.   3 weeks shipping  https://a.aliexpress.com/_mMZGw2u
