Hi all,  how is it going?

This week, 10/18/2020

I have been using DJ's Train Vision Object By Script = very cool, works well.

Also I tried PtP's  YOLO object detection -  works well also

I also have a pixy2 cam - https://pixycam.com/pixy2/

This week, I plan t start my 3d printing episode  - my shot at this,  I am green at this

I purchased a month ago Creality 3D Printer CR-10S Pro V2 with BL Touch Auto-Level, Touch Screen, Large Build Volume 3D Printer 300mmx300mmx400mm with Capricorn PTFE 2019 Newest 95% Pre-Assembled Printer

So while am still waiting for XYZ to get back to me about the larger SUPER printer (its now been two weeks) I decided to buy a different brand, thats smaller and was cheaper. From Amazon, I picked up the Monoprice Mini V2. It has some good revies and can basiclaly print close to 5"x5"x5". I received it today and am already printing out one of the demo pieces (Ill show when done) :-)

Plan to start tomorrow, 3d world :-)

By the way, on a different thread, I read DJ said:

Quote:

There will always be a free version of ARC - I’ve committed to that. Providing the base features is probably the easiest way to get away with it. And having a paid version supporting newer features. That’s most likely the best option moving forward:)

that way everyone gets what they’re used to and can pay to experience the newer stuff

when will this start?

Im liking my Monoprice Mini printer so far.  While it prints small items, the items are certainly big enough for what I need right now, meanwhile I am still working on getting the big printer working (they are gonna send me replacement parts).   Right now though, on the MP Mini, I would love to  know a really good way to remove printed parts off that bed. Seems everything really gets stuck to the bed, and a scapper can barely get under it, even when i use raft setup. Any thoughts?

Hi all, printing is going great,

My wife was an engineer, scientist, at 3M = did in the 1980's injection molding, with big robot arms, different variables then a 3d printer - she knows ALOT about plastics and other things -  she used ABS, which had a strong smell = VHS, cassettes, parts for communication - In 1979 she made the last 8 track tape, remember?  Time flies when you are having fun.... now it is almost 2021

Anyway,

I using PETG filament

using the Ultimaker Cura 4.8 for settings, slicing etc...

we figured our for our 3d printer: I am using the Creality - Cr 10S pro v2 printer

"glass" bed = 87 nozzle = 237 speed = 20 to 60 max fan off Z = -2.29

no magigoo printing at a slower speed is so much better

make surer you tighten the printer head (nozzle) so there is no play - tighten everything :-)

Did you see my figures above for PETG?

We search the net, got results

Here they are:

I using PETG filament

using the Ultimaker Cura 4.8 for settings, slicing etc...

we figured our for our 3d printer: I am using the Creality - Cr 10S pro v2 printer

"glass" bed = 90 nozzle = 237 - 240 speed = 20 to 60 max fan off Z = -2.29

no magigoo printing at a slower speed is so much better

make surer you tighten the printer head (nozzle) so there is no play - tighten everything :-)

Also watch the filament roll from not getting tangled

See the servo holder how nice they can out?

the Ultimaker Cura 4.8 we set retraction to 7, put our printer in there, add PETG

leveled the bed, them mapped the whole bed with our software, it tell us the highs and lows of the bed ( we use a glass bed) at 87 heated no maggigoo is needed

Fun fun fun...I was just watching Mr. Metal too...I never thought to try bots with skin.

I see we shop in a lot of the same places...EZ Robot, Actobotics, ServoCity I am guessing.

Nice job.  You are cookin' up some great stuff.  Are you sure you've only been doing this for 2 years?

What kind of bot are you thinking of designing/printing?

I will mention this here because I think it saved me a lot of time...

For a large bot, consider using a combination Actobotics metal and 3D printed plastic parts that screw to it.  Trying to do a large bot all in plastic can have many additional planning challenges (notches, screws, etc.) to attach multiple parts together, unless you have a huge printer.   Using the metal also lets you reconfigure and change the dimensions early on when you might still need to make large design changes.  Later you might be able to replace some of the metal with plastic if that is desirable to save weight or looks...or not.

Gmornin there EzAng :-) Love how the hand is printing out. How much different was it to set up using the PETG over PLA? Im still havent tried it yet.  Ive been printing work related parts on the SynDaver , no robot parts yet. Last time I printed a robot part was on the Monoprice. Had just printed an endcap to an Actobotics part.  I got a lick out of the deer hook too  :-)

Good morn, RoboHappy,

Thanks for your comments on my beginning printed parts.

I thought 3d printing was a bigger deal then I see here. Only I few people talk about it in this forum - The net is the place for many 3d printing groups I see for all sorts of printing and free  stl sites.

What CAD software do you use?

I might check out Fusion 360

Where do you work that needs parts?

I have never used PLA yet, only had 2 rolls of PETG, so that is what I use. By the net, YouTube and our own tweaking, I figured some good setting for my machine - I see my machine used different settings for PLA - If you want,  I can check later the settings...

thanks again,

EzAng

#177

EzAng

Its been mostly PLA for me, I tried ABS once on that XYZ printer which failed for me.

For my job, our drafter uses Solidwork, and we are currently making either small test jigs to hold circuit boards for rework or assembly, or prototypes of small boxes for upcoming product releases.

At home, most of the time I download from Thingiverse and try to tweek if needed with Tinkercad.  Im an old 2D Autocad user, so im still trying to wrap my brain around the the 3d part, lol esp while trying to learn Fusion360 when I have the time.

Last week I was printing out some of those "Touchless" door hooks I got from the net for my fellow coworkers.

I am back to 3d printing.

Looking around for something to print that is usable.

just printed 2 soap boxes for my granddaughter, she will be on her way to college soon :-)

I use PETG filament

using the Ultimaker Cura 4.10 program for settings, slicing etc...

we figured our for our 3d printer:

I am using the Creality - Cr 10S pro v2 printer -  auto correction - BLTouch sensor to detect exactly how far away the nozzle is from the bed.

Measures all the glass bed with points(16 I believe) to determine the ideal setting

I always level it first myself.

"glass" bed = 87 nozzle = 238 speed =  I start at 25, then I move up - depending on what you are printing fan off Z = -2.29

These settings work great for me. You may need to tweak a bit for your machine.

Make surer you tighten the printer head (nozzle) so there is no play in it- tighten everything

found out some things are better printing at a slower speed

On to my next print

PS,

I do want to thank NallyCat, Nomad, RoBoHappy  and others for getting me interested in 3d printing

Servo City has changed many products and others are discontinued.

Like the servo Gearboxes, "now" they only come with "their servos". (they all over 100.00)

In the past, I purchased the GearBoxes without their servos (less expensive) I used servos I had hanging around. I feel that was a bad decision. (as of 2022)

GoBuilda has nice products also.

Today, I hope to get a video on Mr. Metal in action

You know, what most these robots can do is just move forward and back, mouth moves while talking, eyes light up, head moves left and right, grippers grab things, arms move in two directions, camera on head sees - all with ARC software

You have done great work on this one. I love the AI feature. When I was younger I never thought I'd live to see stuff like this.

How are you using the camera on his head? If for tracking movement how is that working for you?

I haven't tried camera tracking for many years. Actually early 2013. There has been a bunch of improvement in the the way ARC and EZ Robot has implemented this. I hope to try this soon again in my rebuild of my B9 LIS robot. Back "in the day" it was kinda quirky but that was back in the V3 ez robot and v1 camera days. DJ and his team has made vast improvements in the way ARC uses the camera. You needed a lot of light but placing the camera on a static part of the robot that didn't move helped. Also I used to get false positive tracking with reflections. Here's a video I made of that attempt. Disclaimer: I had the camera mounted inside of a bubble with flashing lights inside along with it. It kept being distracted by the internal lights. This was a no go for me back then.

I was tracking my movement. At that time I wanted to have the robot recognize movement and track it then move a motor attached to a joint like a neck to move along with the moving object. So the effect would be like having a head follow whoever was walking past the robot.
