Ez Robot Power Supply Question.

Hello everyone!

I just got my wall-e EZ build working perfectly! Everything is good. just a lot of problem solving lately. I just had a quick question to ask...since my robot runs on 6 non rechargeable energizer AA's, is it safe to use 6 rechargeable energizer AA's? I didn't want to try it till I was reassured. It would be better if I could, because then I wouldn't need to constantly buy new batteries. I don't want to try it till I am certain that this is fine...Thank you all very much!;)

Yes. But note, rechargeables are 1.2v not 1.5v, therefore you drop down to 7.2v from 9v.

You can use any power source from 5v to 18v, you will see a lot of different batteries being used in different projects. Personally I use a 2S LiPo on one robot and 6xAA on another with a 12v AC Adaptor for my "test bench" (coffee table) and have used 6v SLA too.

The higher the voltage the more the regulators need to work though, which results in more heat. So bear that in mind and you're good to go:).

Personally I see no problem with this. As long as you plan to take them out of the robot and charge them. I use rechargeable batteries in my digital camera all the time. However over time they seem to take discharge faster. Still cheaper then buying new ones all the time. ;)
