Hi When I start the speech recognition I get the following error message:
"Voice recognition was not able to start, there is either no listening device or your operating system is not supported."
I am running Windows 7 and have tried setting inbuilt speakers and mic as default as well as headset speakers and mic, neither worked but both work with speech recognition for windows 7 and in a 2010 VB application that I sometimes run on this laptop (Lenovo X1).
Any clues? Thanks
I recall someone saying they had an issue if the default language wasn't set to english. You can also load the Debug window (press F2 or select Debug from Utility and see if there are more details.
Hi DJ I had tried both english NZ and English Canadian, neither worked, with the debugger open I get the message
"the language for the grammer does not match the language of the speech recogniser"
Whats the language of the speech recognition?
Thanks
Also tried US language in windows 7 still the same message in debugger and msgbox. Any clues?
Interesting. I actually have no idea. A bit stumped - something must be still configured for a different language. Are you changing the language for the keyboard? Or region? Does the computer require rebooting after changing the language?
I guess the main question is "where does the speech recognition module get the language from?"
Hi, DJ Sures.

I'm running window XP on my computer with office 2003. language setting is English (United States ). speech recognition on my computer work in each program (word ,notepad...) exept EZ-builer. Pls, help me with this problem . Thank you .
@romango9 - I don't speak for DJ, but perhaps I can shed some light on your issue.
You're problem is different than jock's. jock was running Windows 7. You are running Windows XP and I'm sorry to say that the speech recognition is not supported by ARC on Windows XP.
Many of us have tried to get speech recognition working on Windows XP but I have not heard of anyone being successful to date.
Won't work with XP. Only works with Windows 7
Thank's to all for replying.
I understood the problem. But... M.b. anyone tried to use speech recognition via Visual Studio/SAPI 4/5
