Load Torque Gauge

I think it is really important to know how much load there is moving/pushing something , whether it is a robot head or arm before "throwing" on a servo. Is there something like a force gauge to test whatever it is your moving before placing a servo? I hate crossing my fingers and tuning for dense smoke!:) Your thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated. Glen(FRED) from Salt Spring Island
