Interesting.All You Need Is A $2700 3D Printer

Hmmmm... I wonder what the total cost would be to eventually build one.

$2700 for the printer but how much for the materials to print it? And how long would it take?

Although it is exactly what I am looking for when I get to my big project of a life-size android. If only I could find a decent UK supplier who has reasonably priced 3d printer...

P.S. Clickable link here

I have a makerbot store.makerbot.com/replicator.html

It actually takes more time to model than to print.... I printed a 3"x3" cube and it took about 30-40 min to print. (Downloaded from Thingiverse

Weighed hardly anything. Plastic is $US48/kg and goes a long way because of the honeycomb effect ....

I have it to start teaching my students about robotics and the EZ-B this year.

I've been watching that guy develop his project for quite a while.... amazing aye!

I've looked at the makerbot a few times but couldn't see the international sales, I can't say I looked too hard as I know what will happen when I find it and I just can't really afford it yet...

yeah. between the wife screaming for a house and enough money going into senseless mods to my car, my wife would kill me if i brought home a $2700 printer, unless it printed real diamonds, lol.

I'm keeping my eye on ebay. I figure by next year the price should drop for this year's version. Plus with 3d printing all over the news, there should be more people coming out with consumer models soon.

I would be interested in the total cost. Not sure what the yield is on a roll of filament.

either way, gonna keep my eyes on this project.
