It is possible to use ARC/ez-bv4 under water but you would have to embed the whole system inside the robotic fish or ROV. The ez-b and small form factor PC would still connect via WiFi but it would all be done inside the under water robot. The system would have to be fully autonomous, unless you can find some way to use low frequency radio waves or infrared light to control the under water bot from the surface or outside the tank.

Another way would be to use an ez-bv3 with a tethered serial connection to the computer on the surface, but it sounds like you'd like a wireless solution.

We do have a wired ez-bv4 top board on the list, that could also potentially be used, but that's a future development.

@Jeremie , Thankyou

I see, course it can work if i using mini pc in the robot fish. :)

Jeremie, is there a place to solder a wifi antennae? Perhaps a snorkal kind of arrangement with a floating antennae could be used.

Naw sorry Alan, there isn't.

There is a wifi-module from the same manufacturer that has a ufl connector for external antennas but it would be pretty painful to replace the wifi module on the ez-b for another.

Eric, how many servos and sensors and thinga are on the fish? Maybe something like an Arduino on board, acting as a slave to an EZ-B on the surface connected by a 3 wire tether to one of the UARTs.

I know you are on a pretty tight budget, so an embedded computer is probably not an option, but maybe a cheap used Android phone running ARC Mobile. You could have ot be mostly autonomous, and just connect some fishing line to retrieve it if it goes out of control.

@Alan in the fish is 5servo and 1 motor dc gearbox. Maybe i will use a android for connect to ez-board. I must making more space safety box in the robofish body.

Thankyou Alan:)

Nice work Eric.... Another excellent build by you....:)

Thankyou @Richard R

But i have problem at controller it in a water. Hope in the future this robot cant use as tool for analysis the undet water ecosystem without scaring the real fish.:)

Wait a second! Eric this is your fish design? I thought it was just an example you found...I should have known from your previous designs how wrong I was.

Man, that's amazing! Great work!

I could potentially make a custom WiFi board for you Eric that has an external WiFi antenna connector so that you could allow you to have a bob style antenna that floats at the surface. Would this interest you?

@Jeremie:)

Yes it my roboFish. it is good news for me @Jeremie thankyou, and greatfull I have won a grand Prize (the 30Watt epilog laser cutter) in Intructables.com . but the Prize it too much for me.. I don't know I can paying the costum taxs. :(

@OldBotBuilder Costum tax in Indonesia total 27.5% max 30% Of value ($12025) is expensive taxs

#16

@EricEZ... I know it is easier said than done but you should consider starting your own business... Find a way to get money for a 3d printer and design software.... You could custom make robots for people... People would buy your robots/designs dude...:)

@Richard R Yes i have starter for making robot for sale not only my design for real, i make a simple robot with frame using acrilyc for last 8 week ago, And I have to take a trip for 1 hour to get to the cutting laser shop for cutting acrilyc frame. And now i get a laser cutter. This my website www.diyroboticresearch.com but not get a many costumer yet. Thankyou

I am highly interested in your fish design as I was thinking about doing this last summer, wondering if a much larger design could be made looking like a small shark. Or looking at some new Drone kits that are submarines I heard some company making them now. Would need to be able to use in Pacific Ocean area but starting out small with a fish first to see what kind of problems happen. With camera to see what may be below,possibly sonar, I always thought this would be impossible to make but submarine drones are real now!:D
