, I know this is a EZ Robot EZB question but the firmware update tool is downloaded with ARC from Synthiam. I went to thrie website and was directed to come here for EZB Firmware update help. I thought I'd look for my answer here.
I want to check the Firmware and update my EZB if needed. I have done this many times to other EZB's but over WIFI. My current EZB is connected to my computer that runs ARC through USB connection and a COM port. I've tried to do the firmware update using the COM port (5) listed in the dropdown list but it fails to connect. Do I need to update the firmware only over WIFI? If do I need unplug the EZB from the computer's usb port and possibly reset it to update over WIFI?

To update the firmware on your EZ-B v4, it is indeed recommended to perform the update over Wi-Fi rather than a USB to serial connection. The firmware update process is designed to work with the EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi module, ensuring a smooth and reliable update. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you update your EZ-B v4 firmware over Wi-Fi:
Ensure EZ-B v4 is in Wi-Fi Mode: First, make sure your EZ-B v4 is set up in Wi-Fi mode. If it's currently connected via USB for a serial connection, you'll need to disconnect it and ensure it's powered on and in Wi-Fi mode. If necessary, reset your EZ-B v4 to its default Wi-Fi settings by following the instructions in the EZ-B v4's documentation.
Connect to EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi Network: On your computer, connect to the EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi network. The network name (SSID) usually starts with "EZ-B v4" followed by some unique identifiers.
Launch ARC: Open the ARC software on your computer. Ensure you're running the latest version of ARC for the best compatibility and features.
Open Firmware Update Tool: In ARC, navigate to the top menu and select
Project
>Firmware Update
. This will open the firmware update tool.Select EZ-B v4 and Update: In the firmware update tool, your EZ-B v4 should be automatically detected if you're connected to its Wi-Fi network. Select your EZ-B v4 from the list and follow the on-screen instructions to check for firmware updates and proceed with the update process.
Follow On-Screen Instructions: The firmware update tool will guide you through the update process. Make sure not to power off the EZ-B v4 or disconnect from its Wi-Fi network during the update.
Reconnect After Update: Once the firmware update is complete, you may need to reconnect to the EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi network, as the update process may temporarily disconnect you.
Verify Firmware Version: After updating, you can verify the firmware version by connecting to your EZ-B v4 in ARC and checking the log or console output for the firmware version information.
If you encounter any issues during the firmware update process, ensure that your computer is properly connected to the EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi network and that there are no firewalls or security software blocking the connection. If problems persist, consider visiting the Synthiam support area or community forums for further assistance.

@Athena , OK but I think you are mistaken about being able to update the EZB firmware directly from ARC. I do not see any options in ARC to be able to do that. I do however see the v4 firmware update tool listed in the Synthiam section inĀ the Windows App selection on the Windows Start Menu.
You are correct, and I apologize for the confusion in my previous response. The firmware update for the EZ-B v4 is indeed performed using the EZ-B v4/2 Wi-Fi Robot Controller Firmware Update Tool, which is separate from the ARC software itself. This tool is typically installed alongside ARC and can be found in the Windows Start Menu under the Synthiam section. Here's how you can proceed with the firmware update using the dedicated tool:
Ensure EZ-B v4 is in Wi-Fi Mode: Make sure your EZ-B v4 is powered on and in Wi-Fi mode. If it's currently connected via USB for a serial connection, please disconnect it and switch to Wi-Fi mode.
Connect to EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi Network: On your computer, connect to the EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi network. The network name (SSID) usually starts with "EZ-B v4" followed by some unique identifiers.
Launch the Firmware Update Tool: Go to the Windows Start Menu, look for the Synthiam section, and select the "EZ-B v4/2 Wi-Fi Robot Controller Firmware Update Tool."
Follow the Tool's Instructions: The firmware update tool will guide you through selecting your EZ-B v4 and performing the firmware update. Make sure you are connected to the EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi network, as the tool will communicate with the controller over Wi-Fi.
Perform the Update: Follow the on-screen instructions within the firmware update tool to check for firmware updates and apply them to your EZ-B v4.
Reconnect if Necessary: After the firmware update process is complete, you may need to reconnect your computer to the EZ-B v4's Wi-Fi network if it was disconnected during the process.
Verify the Update: You can verify the firmware update by connecting to your EZ-B v4 in ARC and checking the console output for the firmware version information.
If you encounter any issues during the firmware update process, ensure that there are no firewalls or security software blocking the connection to the EZ-B v4. Additionally, the EZ-B v4 should not be connected to your computer via USB during the firmware update process, as the update is performed over Wi-Fi.
Thank you for pointing out the correct procedure, and I hope this clarifies the steps for updating your EZ-B v4's firmware.

We should add that there is most likely no reason to upgrade the firmware - as the EZ-B v4's ship with the latest firmware for the past several years.
Thanks. I was there and could find nothing about having the EZB attached to the computer with USB and doing a firmware upgrade. Like I mentioned above they refer the user back here to Synthia to download the latest ARC software. I'll just be content and trust that I have the latest firmware installed.
