Dual Cameras And Mic

These questions are regarding the ez robot kit.

Does it have the ability to add 2 cameras and send video from both cameras back to the PC? (for a virtual reality/stereoscopic vision setup)

Can 2 microphones be added and have the sound sent back to the PC (for virtual reality/stereoscopic sound)

Basically it would be like you are sitting in the bot and be able to see/hear what the bot sees/hears, be able to tell where the sounds are coming from and see in 3d.

Have a look at the last few pages of Bob in "Project Showcase". Bob uses a 10 inch Acer one netbook Apron hooked into an EZ-B. Presently I'm using Skype to view through the Netbook camera via another laptop which is nothing "WOW" but you get sound the robot hears and it's clearer than the camera I got with the Kit. For input sound I'm using a guitar hero Mic plugged into the netbook. For sound out I'm using a mini speaker with built in amplifier - used to amplify discmans, Mp3 players etc, (it's loud) . You can stick a wide angle lens over it and view an entire room. You can still motor your robot around using the EZ-B as the camera and sound work independently to EZ-B or Arduino or whatever you choose as a microprocessor.

Now the 3D stuff is not so easy. This is an area I've looked at for the last 2 weeks and your best option is to hook up a kinect camera with the right software which looks to be Microsoft Visual basic. Check out the last few entries into the topic string listed

using 3 d camera to navigate

The other hurdle is you may need to add an Arduino board as at this time, the EZ-B cannot handle a Kinect for the purpose you are after. It may be in the pipeline but don't hold your breath. Some "Botties" as I call them (into full on Robot builds from the ground up with hours of savy on lengthy code) will probably write in and give you tips on how to do it with 2 web cams etc. You might want to go that way, there are no rules, just lots and lots and lots of time.Check the Hack sites and YouTube...Good Luck ;) :)

Hello, Hazbot has most of this correct. There is no value in adding an Arduino for Kinect, because Arduino has no Kinect interface. We are working with the Microsoft SDK and Kinect that Microsoft has supplied to me for development. ARC will have a Kinect interface shortly. You can ignore having to use the "A" word, unless you'd like to flash an LED.:)
