DJ Sures VAIO Laptop

User-inserted image

The laptop showcased here is a then Sony VAIO computer. In many videos showcased on the then DJ Sures YouTube channel, you can see this laptop. It was a Windows 7 laptop featuring the taskbar at the top (which is not as bad as you'd think) and was used until at least 2014. It powered many of Sure's robots during the beginning of the 2010s. I'm wondering what happened to that laptop. Sony spun off Vaio in 2014 and retains 5% ownership. Most of the firm is owned by Japanese Private Equity Firm, Japan Industrial Partners, Inc. Still, that wallpaper is amazing, I miss Windows 7 (when it worked), and I still find it impressive that Sures used the laptop webcam to control the eyes of the head.

Hmm, I can’t quite remember what happened to that particular laptop. But you’re right, I really did enjoy Sony laptops. I always had VAIO Sony’s for long as I can remember.

after that laptop, I got another Sony, which was white. Then another which was silver. Then another that was black. Then another which was the Sony flip and oh gosh, another that was a Sony tablet.

finally after my last sony flip, I switched to Dell because Sonys were discontinued. Since then, I’ve had several Dell Xps laptops with aluminum shells for robustness.

interesting fact, my parents have two of my previous Sony laptops. They use them daily, albeit a little dated but good for their needs. My white laptop was lent to an Ex a few years ago, who kept it. I hope that it’s still being used.

oh, and exosphere test playground runs off a Sony laptop as well!

oh geez, and our source repository runs off a Sony laptop. So it seems there’s quite a few Sony laptops in my life still!

oh, and in the last few years since the pandemic, I’ve been working from home lots. So I started using two desktop computers that I built. I find the desktop nice because the desk/office environment keeps me away from Netflix and other distractions.

with the new ARC, I’ve been helping out by programming again. I’m really enjoying getting back into code - because the last several years I’ve been focused on the  boring businessy side of things. Only occasionally getting into code when robot skills or small tweaks were needed. With these huge programs to compile that are million+ lines of code, the desktop PCs are workhorses. They make the job a lot easier!

Well DJ I am glad you still enjoy getting into the coding. Geez how time flies, 2024.What you created from EZ builder to ARC had me interested for about 7 or 8 years in programming the bots and having fun with the simple but powerful learning plugins, sample coding to copy and sort of cheat with to move servos and sensors. Although it would then cause me to learn the coding when errors happened and robot would not move. I had fun figuring out why the robot failed. Big part of my life that could have never happened with other learning systems. Those other programming platforms looked too much like math homework from grade 10 to 12 which made me fall asleep to look at and refuse to try. You just made it all so much Fun and easy for anyone, so good on you! Hopefully many more interesting things to come from your brain.
