Ez-robot Revolution Shipping Update

Well, many of you have been wondering when we will be shipping EZ-Robot Revolution? It has been a very fun time designing the Revolution robots over the past year. I'm very excited to see what amazing inventions you will create with EZ-Bits and the EZ-B v4. There have been a few changes to the robots recently, and the EZ-Bits STL's will be published online in the EZ-Cloud shortly. The Store will also reflect the changes to the parts - as you know, our EZ-Robot Team has been 110% full throttle for many months.... So please be patient with us :)

Preparing parts for manufacturing has been a very interesting and educational experience. Finding manufacturing companies, logistics companies, quality control companies, etc... Negotiating pricing. Trying to find North American manufacturers - learning to negotiate with overseas manufacturing. The list goes on, and on, and on. Are we an expert yet? In my books, you're an expert when you accept that you're not an expert.

Whoa, that was deep! Enough about philosophy, onto the good news... Watch the video for the update :) Oh, and dancing robots!

Thanks for the nice update. Its really awesome to get those updates on the developmentprocess with a video.

I really like the new clip on the front. How about some for the shoulders as well?^^ I still dream about a more johnny5ish JD:)

Is there a technical reason why the camera has been moved to the top of the head? From the looks alone I personally preferred the old "Haircut" with the camera on his forehead as 3rd eye. I hoped that the camera would be moved into JDs left eyesocket. I wish JD would be available with different heads.

00:55 Shipping of preorders starts in march:)

I did not hear a date but I did hear the Month of March! Hooray! 4 to 5 more weeks is now doable! Great update video DJ!:)

Found it at 00:55. I didnt hear it when I watched the video the first time, because my lil son came right at that time of the video into the room, because he had forgotten to give his robot a good night kiss ^^

Well hopefully everything goes smoothly from here on out. I am really excited to get my robot up and running and I have another robot project in mind :-} Well I am really hoping March is the month :-} Talking about things and showing a few videos is ok, but I am ready for the equipment in my hands.

#5

I'm so excited! It's now a race between my Solidoodle and Roli. Who will cross the finish line first? We'll have to see. @DJ Will you be updating the ez-bit and stl libraries soon? I really like playing with those.:)

I agree .... If the STL files could be updated ASAP that would be awesome. I'm I'm the process of printing JD and just saw that his head, body and feet tops are changed - also I've never seen the files for the gripper. My printer isn't the bulletproof Replicator 2 so takes a lot of tweaking and attempts to print each part so I want to get cracking as soon as LOL.

Awesome news about shipping in March! Just need to get the eyes in the shop so I can add them to my order !

Cheers,

J

I hope the old versions of the files also stay available.

Stibaer... You can always go into ARC and download the STL files now so you have both versions. I saved them to my PC last week so I could run them through NetFab (Slicr said there were some minor holes in a couple of the STL files so they I ran them through NetFab to be sure of a good print).

I heard that shipping is "a month and a half away" and "March". My internal computer translated that into "end of March".

#10

Yep, sounds like at least early April before we actually see it at our door.... sigh...

#11

@jayfromtheUK - I ran almost all of them through netfab just to prep for when i get my printer and want to print some. I found a few that needed repaird. A couple of the servo brackets needed it. I can't remember details now but I'll look when I get home and tell you what ones I had to repair.

Early April? Maybe I'll get an EZ-Robot for my birthday then:D

#13

@Niek... At least you already had the chance to play with V4 for a while...:P Us commoners still have to "eat cake"....:D

United Kingdom
#14

@Antron107 it's ok .... I have already run then through NetFab and it was the servo mounts like to said that came back saying there were holes near the edge.

@jayceekeys: What I mean, is, that it would be great, if you could look up the way of a parts evolution in ez-b,. Like an archiv. You never know when an older version of the developer process couldt come in more fitting for a current problem.

Is this all robot sets or just the JD wasn't sure but hope its not

Well I have the current versions of the files just in case. As much as I love the changes, if it's things like logos on feet, it only complicates the print where I have a less than perfect printer. Although the replicator 2 seems pretty plug and print, a lot of other printers take a lot more work to get the same standard. As an example the feet bottoms are easy, but items like the head front are more difficult .... If printed with the face upward, the eyes are mid air so need support printing, which when removed can leave the inside of the head less than perfect. Hopefully I can print things to optimise the exteriors and the insides of face and shoes etc won't be noticed where the support was. Hopefully the new files will be ok, but if it's simple and functional vs fancy and messy I will stick with the current files if the new ones are too tricky for me to print.

@jayceekeys: I agree. I also would prefer logo-free parts without "branding"

i gess bolt will be availeble whit or whithout logo.

I believe the parts are to be loaded in ARC with the new logo. I have absolutely no problem having the logo/branding. It's not an issue it's just anything that is detailed like that adda the possibility that the part will look less near when it's 3D printed on an average printer.

@rryerson I actually didn't get to play with the v4. When I was at EZ-Robot, they were only just coming up with the idea. What I used was the EZ-Mini, which was just a down scaled version of the v3:D

#24

@Niek... Ahh, ok... didn't know that... So you are in the same boat as the rest of us then... ;)

#25

Can anyone at EZ robot give is an idea of what the pricing may increase to after pre order pricing finishes? A rough percentage?

Thanks

United Kingdom
#26

Check the online shops that are selling them, they have full price. Check Robotshop.ca:)

It's a guess but I would put money on it being right.

#27

"Check the online shops that are selling them, they have full price. Check Robotshop.ca "

RobotShop.ca is giving the price in Canadian Dollars. Robotshop.com is giving US dollars and matches the current pre-order price listed on the EZ-Robots shop, so that apparently is not a good comparison.

Good call. Checked with USD as currency and it matches the shop here.

That said, I'm sure I checked the other day as USD and they were higher... either it wasn't USD or I've imagined it... it could be either:)

#29

The pricing is exactly the same at robot shop as it is as pre order pricing on ez robot, does this mean it will be cheeper to buy from robotshop instead of direct from EZ Robot once pre order is over?

United Kingdom
#30

Previously on the V3s the prices were the same regardless of where you purchased. Until pre-order is over we wont know, I'd guess resellers will also increase their prices. It's a case of wait and see I guess.

Germany
#31

How much was the difference between the preorder prices and the regular prices of the v3?

United Kingdom
#32

Don't think the V3 had pre-order, that was before my time here and would likely be irrelevant.

It's pre-order price now, the full retail price is of no concern yet surely? I can't see why it is important at the moment. If you want to save money buy in the next couple of weeks.

#33

@stibaer... Yeah, as Rich said... Any price increase would be bad, anyway... If you are worried, just buy now...

#34

It's march, JD should be coming any day now cool

I don't think they will be any day as the ABS parts aren't finalised for manufacture according to Jason, but an update would be good. Really nice if we had an update before the team head off for the weekend as it's frustrating all the silence and no one from EZ replies to forum questions about it.

We don't need you to do a vid .... Just a quick post is cool DJ

Pretty please !

They will update when they can. And bear in mind, they work weekends too:)

It would just be nice for the EZ team to comment themselves .... They do answer other threads but seem to pass over ones when their valued customers ask for shipping updates. That can be really frustrating and could even appear rude - and I know that's certainly not their intention.

It's not too much to ask for honest updates and it's always good customer care to advise your customers when you are unable to deliver to the timescales stated when their order was placed. There are often understandable delays with new product launches and whilst I'm sure the EZ team would be the first to agree that it would be preferable for there not to be, it's a fact that the kit just isn't ready yet. Getting angry or as some people have done cancelling won't make it any quicker, but communicating clear dates would at least let folks know when to expect what they have paid for. No amount of debating could refute that.

:)

#39

Well, I do understand the silence. What seems a lifetime ago but actually about a year ago EZ Robots announced a new EZB and pined a date for release. That date came and went and EZ Robot looked bad and had to give embarrassing excuses why the "new" and never seen before "amazing" new high performance EZB Mini board wasn't ready for shipment. Seemed the EZB Mini wasn't going to live up to expectations. We were all very disappointed because we had been waiting so long but thank God DJ pulled the design and redesigned the product and expanded it into Revelation. I think they learned a very good lesson to not promise a set delivery date when your at the mercy of other companies production schedules and new technologies till the product is actually on the shipping dock.

United Kingdom
#40

Actually I disagree. They already have given a deadline to those that weren't around when the previous issues you mentioned arose. It is the 5-7 week delivery commitment that they made when we placed our orders. For most that has or is about to have passed, so silence isn't understandable at all. Thry then stated it was March but subsequently suggest that won't be the case for many but no more information after. They are not at the mercy of another company's production schedule. For any company that engages a third party to manufacture for them, it is the company that appoints the third party that makes the choice and accepts the liability for managing and outcome of that decision. In business that is why you sign contracts and have terms and conditions upon placement of order. Performance SLA's are set to ensure that not only quality but lead times are met and it is the job of the person placing the contract to manage this. Delays do happen, but that doesn't absolve a company from talking to their customers and being honest about when products they have paid for will be shipped. Burying the head in the sand has never been a customer service model that has outperformed good communication and I don't believe that EZ would disagree with that either.

I hate this, I feel as though we get accused of being unfair in simply asking for a short update to explain what's happening.

All the best,

Jay

Ps I'm stepping out of this now until I get a response from EZ. I didn't start this thread an don't want to have such forum discussions anymore as EZ have stated that they often miss these comments and I have already sent them an email. It's just frustrating because what they reply on private emails to customers isn't communicated by them to the wider community and it should be.

United Kingdom
#41

It's understandable that they may remain silent on this if they themselves are waiting for information from the company manufacturing the products.

If it's unsure that they will be shipped in March then they will want to wait for absolute confirmation of this further delay before telling us about it.

Also, the 5-7 week delivery time stated in the store is right next to a link which explains the whole "pre-order" issue.

You want an affordable product, you're going to have to expect EZ-Robots to use manufacturers in China. You want the product now, you can pay over 10 times as much for the same product and they will have them made in the USA/Canada. Sales would be a fraction of what they are if the costs were 10 times higher!

ALL of this has been explained in the forums, on the shop pages and in videos.

It is still March. It's half way through March. There are still just over 2 weeks left of March. Wait until April to question if and when shipping will begin if it hasn't done so.

"It is still March. It's half way through March. There are still just over 2 weeks left of March. Wait until April to question if and when shipping will begin if it hasn't done so."

You crack me up Rich! :D:D:D

Wait to the end of March, if you haven't received it, then wait for the end of April, If you haven't received it, wait till the end of May! eyeroll

#43

That's not what Rich said... Never said wait until April or May... The way I see it everyone has 2 choices... Either you wait or ask for your money back... Incessant whining isn't going to get your EZb hardware shipped any faster... Either way there will be another update before the end of March...

United Kingdom
#44

Well I could understand it if it was late March now and we had heard nothing but this started at the beginning of March.

I've seen nothing to make me concerned that shipping wont begin in March yet. It's like people are complaining that EZ-Robots haven't performed when the deadline isn't even close yet... Perhaps I'm just the eternal optimist, I dunno...

#45

"Are we there yet ?" When your order shows up at your door. Prior to that actual event is nothing but wishful thinking and wasted hope.

#46

To me its kinda like waiting for a baby too arrive( my first grandchild is due anytime now:D ) , Two doctors give two varying due dates (shipping!) but they really cant predict an exact day and even the mother to be (DJ)can only give vague shipping dates. It is not joyful or helpful to complain to the producer (mom) but we all know it will be shipped and the product will be amazing:D All dad can do is make a crib , cleanout a spare room(build robot bodies) and WAIT All the sisters and brothers uncles and aunts, grandparents(Forum) just have to wait, but look forward to all the time they will spend with the new baby.:) While this analogy is not exactly the same situation , business vrs nature etc its really about keeping our frustrations at a minimum and be positive................and for the most part it has :)

#47

I'm with Rich on this. Maybe because I've been here a bit and watched how it all happened, I'm a bit more understanding. I was never too excited about a mini V3. Sure it would be cool to have a smaller one but the 4V stats are way cooler to me. Then it seemed the marketing department started juicing and Revolution popped up all over the place. Then way more orders than they could have ever anticipated flooded in and they had to get a larger manufacturer to meet the volume requirements. ( They are not a large company that can afford to order 50,000 units and hope they sell. They've even mentioned that they are using the profits from sales to pay for production because they sold out initial units in a flash which led to needing the new manufacturer. ) Then those manufacturing guys and their gosh darn sentimental hoopla of values and tradition had the nerve to take off of work for 2 weeks to celebrate their new year. It seems a bit elitist that that just can't celebrate new years like and with the rest of us. (That last part was cynicism. I have nothing against Chinese New year or how they celebrate it. Japan has Winterfest and everything pretty much shuts down for 2 weeks for that. I respect their cultures and was just making a joke. It just doesn't change the fact that it puts EZs manufacturing plans 2 weeks back.) And now we're almost there.

Speaking of almost there, the longer they take to make it, the better it will be. They've added a few features to the board that we may not have gotten if we've had the boards already. So I just see it as added value. I guess I was never really in a hurry. Sure I'm excited but, I've just had so many pre order heartaches that I knew a product this awesome was gonna have some issues and take some time. I'd almost rather not have a date unless it comes with a tracking number. It avoids those heart aches. As long as its awesome! As long as it's EZ!;)

Thanks for enduring me folks.:)
