Please pardon what might be a dumb question - I'm an Analogue man in a Digital age...
I downloaded the ARC Installer.msi from the site (basic model from the LH side of the download page). Clicked "Run" but when the DL finishes I get an error message telling me I need to download Microsoft Virtual Studio or similar program. Click on the link to Micro$oft and it gives a lot of menu choices about the software it wants you to download. I started again but got the same response. Can't see any evidence that ARC has been installed onto the C Drive. I'm running a 12 month old Asus Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Three questions please:
- Do I need the Microsoft Visual software to make this run, or is my laptop having a bad day?
- If I do need to download something from Microsoft, what is recommended?
- If I don't need the software to make the ARC software run, then how do I circumvent the error message.
Cheers and thanks Mick
The right side of the download page is the ARC software development kit.
The ARC sdk allows one to write a custom robot program from the ground up using a number of programming languages. To use it does require compiling code.
The left side of the download page is a user interface for those who don't need or don't want the customization that the sdk can provide. To get up and running quickly left side ARC user interface is what you want. It still allows you to customize your ez-b controlled robot using the ARC scripting language and prebuilt user controls, but not to the extent the sdk does. The scripts are interpreted by the ARC user interface software. No compiler needed.
The ARC user interface does make use of Microsoft .net so you will need to download that to use ARC. You might be missing a run time library or dll file that the ARC interface requires.
@RobertL184: Thanks for the tip. Needed to repair Client .Net. All sorted. Cheers Mick
