About Synthiam

DJ Sures

If you could have a robot, what would it do?
I empower those ideas.

A young DJ Sures

A Grand Challenge

In August 2011, DJ was building a robot at his summer cabin on Northern Lake Superior. His grandfather was watching nearby and asked if DJ could teach him to make one too.

Knowing all the disciplines involved, DJ explained how hard it was. His grandfather leaned back and said:

"Well, you can make a robot for yourself and have one — or make a platform to help others and have a million."

That moment became the foundation of Synthiam.

Builder. Founder. Innovator.

DJ's career has always sat at the intersection of robotics, AI, and making complex technology approachable — from industrial software to consumer platforms to open hardware.

"Simplicity Inspires Creativity."

Early career

Robotics Software & Cybersecurity

Began in robotics software for nondestructive testing, later expanding into cybersecurity and applied AI/ML research — bridging cutting-edge research with practical engineering. With experience at NASA, CISCO Systems, Symtantec, and more.

2012

Founded EZ-Robot

Created EZ-Robot, a consumer robotics platform that brought drag-and-drop robot programming to classrooms and makers worldwide. Grew the company across more than 80 countries.

2019

EZ-Robot Acquired

After leading EZ-Robot for seven years, DJ guided the company through a successful acquisition — validating the market for accessible robot development platforms.

2019 — present

Founded Synthiam

Applied everything learned at EZ-Robot to build Synthiam: a low-code, hardware-agnostic AI platform for robot companies, makers, and enterprises. ARC and Exosphere are now used to program millions of robots globally.

Remove the Barriers. Let More People Build.

DJ's mission has never changed: make robotics accessible to everyone — through better software, open hardware, community mentorship, and a platform that meets builders wherever they are.
