can you help download the software to IMAC?

@Tx the ARC software runs in Windows only. You can install Windows as BootCamp, or use a virtual machine emulator, such as Paralellelelels or VMWare. We do not directly support virtual machine emulation because there are bluetooth issues with the emulators that we cannot control.

#3

Thanks for reply, one last question before I go out and purchase a Windows PC. Is the software downloadable on a kindle fire tablet?

Name and pic update, still Tx

The software will eventually be available for android, I know little of the kindle fire. If it has support for the android market place, then yes. For creating projects, you'll need a windows install.

If you are choosing to buy a windows machine specifically for ARC, I'd suggest a windows tablet and put windows 8 on it.

Otherwise, you can install windows on your Mac with bootcamp :)

#6

Yes kindle fire will work if app is installed from ad card. You must check "install apps from unknown sources" under app management for you to install the software from ad or online.

We don't have a date for android support yet. We'll make an announcement soon as we have finalized our decisions. :)

Okay, so i saw your video on how you made your own WALL-E robot, from scratch i think it was, and i am currenty trying to do the same in my robotics class, using legos. My question is, how can i make my version of WALL-E talk, and say his name and everything else?

WALL-E is getting tracks soon, and i'd love for him to be able to talk. Please help me make the real thing! User-inserted image

@Seba5,

You could try to run it on your MAC using Parallels (www.parallels.com). Might be worth a try before buying a whole other PC. I know lots of folks that use it, even with external 'windows' devices.

Thank you. How can i make it talk, in anyway like how your WALL-E does?

Xenonventress is this a college class? , I don't have any robotics science courses in my area in Tennessee.

XenonVentress you have to purchase an MP3 trigger sparkfun has them, right now out of stock, You upload the MP3 tracks to a SM and can pick tracks via cmmunication with the ez-b. Look at MP3 trigger under tutorials/hardware compatable

It is a problem with your OS. You have probably got UAC turned on and the settings too high.

Either lower the security in Control Panel -> User Accounts (google for more info on it) or Right Click the setup file and choose run as administrator

#24

One thing I'd like to see is the box-bot tutorial changed to something else like an Ez-bit or toy build.

Maybe an online tour of the ez-robot base?

brand new tutorials.

Quick video introducing everyone who works at ez-robot?

If you open Explorer as Admin you should be able to then run Windows Installer files from within that explorer session.

Or if that doesn't work then this absolutely will:

Right click on Command Prompt, Run as administrator

Then, the command window, type:

msiexec /i "YourMsi.msi"

replacing "YourMSI.msi" with the actual file name. Keep the quotes if there are spaces in the file name, and don't forget to include the path to the file.

Or, if this is your personal computer, and you have good Anti-Virus software, you can just turn off User Access Control and Windows will stop differentiating between running as admin vs running as user. Rich and I differ in our recommendation here. Given that you didn't know how to run or search for how to run an MSI as admin, you are probably safer leaving UAC on as it protects you from mistakes...

eek I fixed it by downloading with IE instead of Google Chrome. Go figure..TY all for help!

BUT..... now I get an error every time I try to load a project.

Duplicate headers received from server

Less The response from the server contained duplicate headers. This problem is generally the result of a misconfigured website or proxy. Only the website or proxy administrator can fix this issue. Error code: ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_CONTENT_DISPOSITION

Do I have to get the robot kit b4 all this works w/o errors? Kinda pricey test.

..or something similar depending on the file I try to load. I will uninstall and try again.

Re-install did not help. So now what?:) eek

I doubt Microsoft will help you.

Have you disabled your anti virus while trying to install? Is anything else running that may cause problems? Have you checked the setting in user account control to make sure you have permission to install anything?

#39

Have you been uninstalling previous versions of ezb before updating? And have you been rebooting after uninstall? Although those things aren't always necessary it's still a good idea to do them. Rebooting can be especially important when upgrading your .net installation.

#40

*confused I have admin privileges. Will try shutting off virus software. I have removed earlier downloads before trying to get the the next one. Your right Microsoft was no help. You guys are the best.

You may have an account which is classified as Administration however this doesn't mean you can do everything.

User Accounts will have some settings which basically tell Windows to jump in and stop things happening regardless of if you say it's OK to do so. If set too high it wont even ask you about them it will just outright deny you despite any account status.

There may be some policies installed within windows which prohibit you from installing or running certain file types or prohibit access to specific directories/folders in Windows (usually the Program Files and other users Documents). Check that there are not any (google it, I don't have time to explain this one since it is pretty involved).

Anti Virus, Internet Security and Anti Malware applications are known to block activities which they think could be the result of a virus or attack. Disabling it temporarily should stop this happening (however in some cases it cannot be 100% disabled - if your protection can't be disabled 100% temporarily I'd suggest getting a decent AV/IS/AMW software).

While it shouldn't be the case you may also want to check the properties of the Program Files and it's sub folders to see if they have been set to Read Only. If they have this may cause a problem however it's a long shot unless you've been playing around and not knowing what you are doing.

Do you have problems installing other software?

If you still can't figure it out and you trust me enough (look at my profile I have 130 questions answered and I'm sure the entire community would back me up) install Team Viewer and I will, when I get chance, take a look. I'm not sure when I will have time with Christmas coming but I'm sure we can arrange a time, just use this offer as a last resort and try everything else first.

#42

eek I tried the Read Only trick and no help. I will get that Team Viewer and see if that can be of help. After the new year will be soon enuff. I still am waiting on my order of the robot to arrive. I have no problems installing other software and run several things as admin to get the best job done. Thanks for your help!

#43

:) Got Team Viewer and it installed just fine.

#44

Glad to hear you're back in business. :)

#45

mad mad I meant Team Viewer installed do I can install something:) Still no luck w ez

United Kingdom
#46

If TeamViewer installed I can't see why ARC wont to be honest.

Have you tried uninstalling ARC (if it shows up in add/remove programs or whatever it's called these days) then deleting any trace of ARC from the Program Files folder and My Documents folders. Then try reinstalling?

#47

I have uninstalled till I am exhausted. I will try deleting all the folders ty

#48

Try this;

This is assuming your running windows 7:

Find the ARC Installer.msi file that you downloaded. Right click on the file and find the "Take Ownership" listing. Click on that and then try to run it again. You may even see "Run as Administrator". If so click on that.

If that doesn't work:

As a test, I would temporarily disable User Account Control and then see if you can install. If so, then we know that UAC is what is causing the problem with the installation.

  1. Access User Control Panel from Start Menu -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Account
  2. Click on User Account Control settings link.
  3. Move the Slider to Never Notify
  4. Click OK to make the change effective
  5. Reboot.

If that doesn't work you may have want to log into the built in Administrator account. I know you think you already are but these are two different things: The only difference between the 2 is that UAC will sometimes prompt your own admin account for permissions while it won't do that to the built-in admin account.

Assuming you are the admin, and you want to enable the built-in Admin Account : Start button > in the search box, type cmd > top left, right click at cmd.exe > click Run As Administrator > at the flashing prompt, compy/paste this command line ..... net user administrator /active:yes > press Enter key > exit cmd window. Your built-in admin account is now enabled > go to safe mode and you'll see it.

If that doesn't work do the following at your own Risk!:

  1. Find the folder which your program wants to install/update itself into or you want to install/update the program into,
  2. Right click that folder and press "Properties"
  3. Click the "Security" tab.
  4. Click "Advanced", the button at the very bottom of the window under the "Security" tab.
  5. Click the "Owner" tab.
  6. Click "edit" under the "change owner to" box.
  7. Ironically, under the new "change owner to" box select the account that is not labeled "Administrator". It will probably just have your name on it. This is probably the non-administrative account you are using now. 7.5. Press Apply.
  8. Accept any warning windows or anything that pops up by the way (I forgot if there were any).
  9. Exit out of that window and go back to the "Permissions" tab.
  10. Now click the "Change permissions" button at the bottom of that tab.
  11. Select that same username/account name you selected earlier (not "Administrator"). There might be a big list and there might be more than one copy of that account. It doesn't matter which one you pick I think.
  12. Press "Edit"
  13. Fun part. Press "full control" under the list of permissions. Or select ones you want. I would just click "full control"
  14. Press OK and you might be done! If you exit out back to the "Permissions" screen you will see that your account now has "full control.
  15. You might not be done and be swarmed by a large number of windows saying that you can not change permissions for folders/files "xxxxx". Just click the red "x" and hope nothing bad happens. It may tell you that you might have caused system instability.
#49

:D OMG! You guys are the bestest! This worked:

If that doesn't work you may have want to log into the built in Administrator account. I know you think you already are but these are two different things: The only difference between the 2 is that UAC will sometimes prompt your own admin account for permissions while it won't do that to the built-in admin account.

I had to log into the new admin account, Download ARC and it installed. Now I see all the samples that error-ed out before and loaded a sample and was blown away when I saw my future work bench to design D2-R2 when he arrives in his shipping pod. TY TY and Season's Greetings! :D

Cool, glad it was finally sorted! :)

#51

I finally upgraded to win. 8 and downloaded ARC. It loaded up fine and appears to be working very well. I have no projects yet but, I'm feeling my way around and poking things. :) There is one thing I'd like to fix and that's the size of the text in the "Settings" screen ...I need it to be larger. The text size on the right side of that screen under "EZ-Script Functions" is just right but, the rest of the the screen is very tiny for an old man ...even for my tri-focals. :) I've searched but, haven't found a way to increase the size. Can you help?

Thanks, RJ

#52

You should be able to raise your font size in the settings of your browser. I love google Chrome

#53

Thanks but, I'm having trouble with the font size in ARC not my browser. I increased the font size in windows 8 but, it hasn't had any influence on ARC. Everything else is bigger except those teeny tiny words in the "settings" windows of ARC.

RJ

#54

If the setting in Windows 8 control panel didn't increase the size then you can't increase the size of the font.

However, what you may be able to do is reduce the screen resolution. This will effectively make everything bigger however you will lose some screen real estate. This is done from the control panel in Windows, choose display and alter the resolution. I would guess it's set rather high if it's a new laptop as it'll be setup for HD. Drop it down to a lower resolution, test it out and find one that you can read and are happy with.

Or, you can use the Maginfier tool in Windows. I have no idea where it is in Windows 8 but if you move the mouse to the right of the screen you can search for apps, just search for Magnifier. It's likely to be in the accessibility group of apps.

#55

Thanks for that. I hadn't thought about the resolution. I'll give it a try. Last resort is the magnifier. I need new glasses anyway. I guess it's time to get 'er done. :)

RJ

#56

Yep, that helped. The text is still pretty small comparatively but, it will do. I don't have to use the magnifier now.

Thanks again, RJ

Thanks DJ. I appreciate the help. I'll do that tonight.

RJ

#59

Hey DJ, the change for the text enlargement works great on the right side script in the "Settings" window but, I wanted to see larger text in the rest of the screen for all of controls and text boxes in the "Settings" window.
I've managed to adjust my screen settings (after updating my graphic driver) to make the text a bit larger. I've lost a bit of screen real estate in doing that but, i can work with it. I'm running a 17" flat screen monitor which may be part of the problem.
Thanks for jumping right on the issue though. You don't mess around with excuses when you intend to fix something do you? :)
