Can'T Add Bluetooth Device - Resolved

I thought I would share this, since I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere on this forum. It really had me going for several hours.

Got my new EZ-B, Bluetooth dongles and other stuff this morning. I quickly ran into a problem getting my new Bluetooth dongle plugged into my Win7 desktop PC to recognize the EZ-B. The drivers installed ok, and everything looked ok. Bluetooth just wouldn't show any Bluetooth devices under "Add a Device". Tried all USB ports to no avail, plus a lot of other things.

One of the first things I tried was to install the dongle on my Win7 notebook, and everything worked just fine on it. But I really want to do my experimenting from my desktop computer.

The problem on the desktop turned out to be the Bluetooth Service was set to start "Manual". I have no idea why that service was set differently than my notebook.

Anyway, should this happen to someone else, goto Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Services and Applications - Services - and finally right click on Bluetooth Support Services and in properties, make sure Startup Type is set to "Automatic".

You can manually start or stop it from Task Manager, but I think the only way to make it start automatically is the above procedure.

Cheers
